There are a lot of stereotypes out there about gamers, but some are based on fact. I recall going to an all-day tournament in my CCG days and my wife swung by to bring my friend and I lunch. She looked around the room (about 40 players) and said "You're the only two normal looking people here."
I had on a polo shirt and my friend was wearing his hawaiian shirt. Everyone else had on a black t-shirt of their favorite rock band or a Star Wars shirt (it was Star Wars CCG), and so on. Also, most either had neckbeards, unkept hair, or were kids. I honestly never noticed, nor cared, really.
Wear what you're comfortable in, so long as it's not flashing your man-boobs.

Always start the conversation by staring at her chest and open with something about your D&D character. But only something level 15 or higher. Less than that just isn't as impressive as you think it is.

Then you can never truely call yourself a TRUE gamer.
On the flip side, you are 5x more likely to have a relationship...
6x since you also have a job.

That's so my crazy aunt's name. Just thought I'd point that out.
My piece might sound a little condescending, but it seems like men are on a constant quest to make whatever they feel dirty and shameful about into something more macho, and what better way than to be the "coolest" of their bunch by wearing "awesome" metal shirts? Admittedly I used to wear clothing with direct messages or imagery that brought slaughter to mind to various game tournaments to seize whatever edge of intimidation I could with fairly decent results if I could live up to it.
I wear a couple Black Dahlia Murder and BTBAM shirts. The fact that you think people wear shirts like that to be "intimidating" is pretty funny. It's a t-shirt dude.
As for feeling dirty or shameful over something they enjoy, that's just sad.
Well I have noticed a lot of gamers odors are so strong as to be quite intimidating. Dude is that shirt black or do you never bathe?

Ive seen a large variety tabletop gamers at my FLGS, but Ill only talk about the ones who play Warhammer. Now I guess you could say I'm the stereotype gamer being talked about here, and I'm like the only person like this at my FLGS and I do usually wear all black. I hate the color Red, Blue most of the time, Green, Orange or Grey Ill wear, brown, white, yellow, or pink I wouldnt be caught dead in. I have some tripp pants but I never wear them because of all the chains on them, I always have my wallet with the chain on it though. At least my hair isn't black and I don't paint my fingernals black either, but I do have long blond hair and a beard and I shower daily, and wear cologne if it's not too strong. I don't like much metal I'm into the classic and hard rock scene so I definitly fit the stereotype here oh, but I almost forgot I play Space Marines not dark eldar, and I play as the Blood Angels which I'm sure comes as no surprise.
Now back on topic Ive seen some of the most unlikely people to be playing Warhammer I have seen 7 year old preppy little girls getting into Warhammer 40,000 and actually playing Decently. In one case in particular I watched an 11 year old girl mop the table with this almost 45 year old man, both armies were around I'd say 2500 points each and the little girl played the Orks, and beat the gak out of this guys Eldar army I was bewildered to say the least. I have seen complete total jocks from my school who normally would pick on the type of people at the store playing and having a great time with these people. You never know who is into this type of stuff until you run into them

Look if you are such a gamer, why only black?????
I only would do that if i was dark elves or CSM.
Why dont they wear army clothes, to express their love to battle.
Why dont they wear green if they like to WAAGH so much.
Why dont they wear blue jeans and a white t-shirt if they like high elves.
Lol and so on...
Just, why the shirt of your favourite metal band? There are a lot of other things?
