Wondering Why the Emperor Left

To quote directly from the codex astartes article:
"The most famous heroic story of ferrus was his titanic battle against Asirnoth, the Great Silver Wyrm. This is recounted in the Canticle of the Travels, an epic poem of unknown origin that is still taught to the clan children at their parents knee. He had stalked the great beast for days through the legendary Land of Shadows. (some time on after discribing the land of shadows).
The Canticle describes the monsterous creature as having skin made of living metal that was impervious to harm. Try as he might, Ferrus could not piece the metal hide of the beast, his fists pummelling harmlessly against it. Fighting the creature for days on end, across continents and seas, Ferrus remained undaunted, confident of his own abilies. He eventually slew the great veast by holding the writhing creature submerged in a lava flow, enduring horrific pain, but bearing it stoically. When he finally removed his arms from the lava, the Wyrm was no more. His hand however were encased in the same living metal the creature's skin was made of, a metal that was as flexable as flesh, as strong as the hardest ceramite."

It then goes on about how the emperor found him.

There is no consensus in world myth as to what a dragon is. The illustrations are vastly different, with 2 limbs, 4 limbs, wings, no wings, fire, no fire...

you get the picture.

'Nice picture.

Still used to the difference made in myths here in mid-europe, where a Dragon is usually the 4 limbed, winged and most dangerous kind.
Maybe the thought of these ( wurm , lindwurm , drache ) sent me a bit off.

The silver-wyrm Ferrus chased was found in ancient ruins of the first settlers.
If it was necron then what is left untouched there?

Just in case someone says it couldn't have been a tomb stalker becasue it was described as a Dragon/Wyrm, I would like to say that to its victims, who werte either running for their lives or dying, it made no difference what it was. It could have been King Kong for they cared. Afterwards, they would not be able to remember what it was clearly because of the trauima. To them, it probably was like a dragon from Terran myth, but it in fact could have been a donkey robot.

In regards to BT's detecting phykers and chaos taint, they still use chaplains and they can smell and feel stuff like this.

you will see an example from the ultramarine movie, where they hint at it.

Phyckers like astropath = space or warp navigators are still used by BT but are greatly mistrusted and have a very low standing.

Wasn't Ferrus' origin story with the metal wyrm extant before the current necron codex (and by extension virtually any necron fluff) existed?

Im just throwing it out there, but does the index astartes (or the fluff that the index astartes draw from) predate the current necron fluff (i.e. living metal)

Also, it certainly pre dates the tomb stalker.

The Black Templars still have librarians, they are just not used in battle due to the lack of trust. The librarians fufill every other job role bar combat.

Source for that? Their codex (p. 8) states "They... profess absolutely no tolerance for hetetics, mutants, warlocks, aliens... for this reason, the Black Templars have no librarians".

As I recall in Nemesis the assassins' ship is steered through the warp by some kind of machine; it would not be impossible for the Black Templars to use some similar contrivance.

BT fluff basically states that they don't have librarians at all right?

Aye. See above for the quote from page 8. We have Chaplains that drink the tears of the heathen for breakfast instead.
