Unit1126PLL sums it up better than most.

"Normal 40k" is not "40k+everything I want to use."

Most people will not appreciate using anything beyond the main rules + codex for a pick up game of 40k. Assuming anything beyond the rulebook + codex is. . .assuming. Which is as bad as it is good.

That simple statement said, reality means your gaming group is the only thing that matters. If they say IA is a meaningfull as INAT, they are correct.

"It is not the bullet with your name on it that should worry you, it's the one labeled "To whom it may concern. . ."

That's good to here. Which lists are more balanced and which aren't?

Yes,

its mostly small local tournaments that have only a handful of players and its just for fun.

We usually allow IA lists, but it is subject to the approval of our TO.

Happen to know any in CT or New England?

I would say forgeworld is about 45% underpowered, 45% balanced and 10% overpowered I.W.I.N. garbage.

The issue is most of the overpowered garbage is marines and it is quickly seen that there is one player who thinks he is smart who shows up with piles of just the good unit and then rofflestomps a bunch of people who have never heard of forgeworld rules before. The people wanting a fluffy unique codex are not the ones ruining it for everyone, it is the guy proxying deathwind drop podz.

This is why the only time it is appropriate is if everyone is aware, expecting it and gunning for it. IE: forgeworld specific tourneys, not general play or general tournies. I like how events have a 'fun' tourney before then the 'serious' tourney after. Keep FW out of serious tournies.
