You wife should play Reasonable Marines, the only chapter to use camo lol. But what are is she playing? That could really help us help you help her.

hows she feel about drop pods? drop pods are pretty cheap/easy to find second hand and allows for some good tactics... plus most people who see the model and don't even play the game seem to especially love that model

lol didn't think I'd get this many replies but all in all, she dislikes the big blockyness of the tanks, so most of the IoM rhinos are out. She does like stormravens though so there's some hope for some sort of dragowing list.

wierdly enough she likes orks though I never seemed too fond of them myself. I have not really shown her too much tyranids yet as we're still going over the assault from black reach as the primer for the game but I will see about getting a codex. (don't have one yet). Her tactics so far (and wierdly enough it fits) is to bum rush everything she has at one point. Very little subtley. I guess it may be just due to her inexperience so far but again, strangely enough it fits orcs and I suppose tyranids too maybe. (almost no experience with them)

Perhaps show her the other ranges as well as different races vehicles are variable styles, perhaps for example the eldars style will appeal if it's just the IoM ones she doesn't like

Actually the BT can make some decent lists without the use of tanks...altough it involves alot of terminators which can hurt the old wallet.

BT uses the Codex Astartes as toilet paper. They’re an Imp Fist successor, recruit from multiple planets, and are known to be the largest Chapter in the galaxy. They’re on a constant Crusade, keeping it real for the Emperor and not bumming around like the other guys. They hate psykers and can’t ally with them. They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

Well she's right.

Also, orks seem like a good idea for her.

Suggest to her Tyranids or Daemons. Both are non-tank armies, Daemons only have the Soul Grinder (beautiful model, but Princes are better). Plus they have some of the coolest models ever in both ranges.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I dislike tanks because Infantry looks cooler to me. I can do more with infantry. Tanks seem too overpowered to me.

Personally, I wouldn't pitch a fit. Can't say for tournaments or other players, though. ^_^

Orks can be whatever color you wanted to paint their skin.

There is nothing in the actual rules that say Orks MUST have green skin.

Just a bit of obviousness, but have you considered Footguard?

They can be done pretty well without tanks and still remain their fluffy-ness.
I like it to have lots of normal human soldiers running around the field and fighting against the superpower soldiers, gigantic aliens and what not.

However, this isn't the cheapest option...

Have her play Wolves, they can make pretty good foot-slogging lists.

Infantry-based IG still needs artillery support, so that's a no go. You can only get so far with heavy weapon teams.

The Death Korps of Krieg list has a wheeled mortar equivalent to the Griffon mortar, and Forgeworld has several artillery platforms.

How good/willing might she be to convert? I'm sure that with some cardstock, the profile of an Imperial tank could be changed suitably.

Barring that, simply going with infantry-based armies may be the way to go.

"I went into a hobby-shop to play m'self a game,
The 'ouse Guru 'e up an' sez "The Guard is weak and lame!"
The Chaos gits around the shelves they laughed and snickered in my face,
I outs into the street again an' grabbed my figure-case."
Oh it's "Angels this" an' "Space-wolves that", and "Guardsmen, go away!";
But it's "Thank you for the ordnance" when the Guard begins to play,
O it's "LOOK AT ALL THE ORDNANCE!" when the Guard begins to play.."

Or a different army with tanks. Have her try Eldar if you can. Their tanks are much more elegant looking.

just kiddin

maybe orks are for her, they dont have but one tank, and that doesnt look like a "tank" too much. Orks can be played entirely without vehicles quite well
