Yeah, so far setting up the why hasn't been so hard, just setting up how it fits in with the fluff. There's the minor lord route, but I'm still open to different concepts.

As long as its within reason you will be fine.
Don't make him overtly friendly. he won't be giving generous tax refunds or have extremely lenient sentencing.
He will have lighter taxes, fair trials, and he won't work them to death. and he certaintly won't be hanging out in the tavern drinking ale with the farm hands.

Lol, yes, that's what I'll do. My lord hates being a lord. Frequently sneaks out of the castle to bump fists at the local mead hall before taking a group of friends to the brothel. Got to watch out for those meddling knights, they always want to kill the fun with their stupid "chivalry" and "honor".
