Jokaero are actually NOT sapient beings.

They are animals that are able to make complex machinery, nothing more.

Having a Jokaero make weaponry for you is no different to having a trained attack dog.

Prove that they're not sapient.

They have no culture, no language, no writing, no religion, and they do not build constructions other than bedding nests and similar such things.

This has been a canonical statement in regards to the Jokaero since their introduction. This is also the only reason they're allowed to live. Otherwise, the Imperium would exterminate them, and then reverse-engineer their digital weapon technology and take it for their own.

That's contradictory to most other things I've read about them, specifically their social structure, their art, and their construction of advanced space-ships. Just because the Imperium can't communicate with them doesn't mean they lack the ability altogether.

From http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Jokaero:

The origins of the Jokaero are linked to the ancient God War between the Old Ones aided by the genetically uplifted Young Races and the Necrons.2-p10 Their physical resemblance to orang-utan's of ancient Earth led to some speculation that the Slann may have genetically manipulated the species as they are known to had visited the planet on numerous occasions.1-p196 In actual fact, their ancestry is linked to the conflict against the C'tan which saw the warp itself become disrupted where predatory creatures such as the Enslaver Plague began to manifest into the material universe.2-p26 Just as the Old Ones had created the Eldar, Rashan and K'nib to battle the Necrons; they now created two new races to help fight th warpspawned threat on their strongholds.2-p25 These two races were the hardy greenskinned Krork and the technology mimicking Jokaero. However, by this point, the damage was too great and the Old Ones were overrun with their great work being undone as their predators of the warp descended on their ancient empire.2-p26 Despite the destruction of their masters, the Jokaero continued to live on and into the Age of the Imperium where there was much speculation about their origins.1-p196 The creations of the Jokaero were often sought after across the Imperium.6-p64 These technosavants often found themselves recruited as Weaponsmiths by Inquisitors who lured them into the service of the Inquisition.3-p50

...that's to show they're Xenos, not hopped-up Earth primates.

In terms of society, Jokaero tend to live in large family groupings that consist of a dozen individuals which roam the galaxy in a random fashion with their sole objective being survival.

This, and other, similar quotes throughout their Lexicanum entry, indicates that they do what they do simply because that is what they do, there's no higher purpose or reason to the things that they do other than they seem genetically driven to do it. They do it because they are built to do it. It's their function and purpose in life.

The (Kr)Ork fight, the Jokaero build.

Well the Officio Vault is described as holding the deadliest weapons in human hands, so yeah.

Extract:
This mysterious nocturnal species were also the creators of Hrud fusils that were a warp-plasma based weapon.7-p64 Fusils remain one of the few scant artefacts of the Hrud that occassionaly come up for sale in the Imperium and were also in high demand. In functionality, they worked as a form of "plasma musket" that uses an unfathomable mechanism to phase a plasma bolt between realspace and the warp. Thus, any shot from a Hrud fussil bypassed by defences of the target though they were unpredictable

I swear it used to say it was a mixture of Plasma and Melta though....hmmm

Ok now I know I read it wrong(or I'm remembering it wrong). Because I thought he complained it was too big.

Must have been , he definitely complains (or worries actually) that it rattles around and isnt held by the straps properly

On Jokaero from the RT rulebook. Not sure how much of it applies anymore but I don't think that much has changed.

The Jokaero are a fascinating race. For one thing, no outsider race has ever decided whether they are intelligent. They are certainly capable of tremendous feats of engineering, construction and problem - solving, yet they have no language, culture or motivation higher than survival.

Their physical appearance ... may or may not be coincidence, for it is established fact that the Slann created and modified many races at the dawn of time, and appear to have visited earth on numerous occasions.

Jokaero live in large family groups, roaming the galaxy at random, concentrating on survival.

It is impossible to argue or reason with a Jokaero. Even giving them what they want is difficult, sine they are incapable of communicating.

It is quite clear that they are not sapient.

They are a species that uses tools, nothing more. Chimps use tools, they even can use sign language. but that doesn't make them sapient.

Yeah, but they don't fly around in space ships or raid planets for bits and pieces that they need to repair stuff either

Space Ships are just tools. Insanely complex ones, but still just tools. Chimps conduct raids on their neighbors too.

WH40k RT pg 197: If the Jokaero could be controlled they would be very useful to other races. However, this has proved largely impossible. They tend to build things which meet theirown immediate needs. Attempts at capturing Jokaero and compelling them to work can have disastrous effects- they build things with which to escape.

Yet another reason the GK codex makes no sense lol.

except an Inquisitor could manage to tame a Jokaero, bribe it with food and other needs it has. Like how Chimps can become quite friendly to their trainers.

Then the Jokaero, being happy with its surroundings, will tinker with the equipment it is allowed to alter. Maybe the Jokaero is captured as an infant.

I imagine its quite a lengthy process that an Inquisitor does to get a Jokaero to come with him. I would think the Jokaero eventually treats the Inquisitor's warband as his family.

Maybe in some fluffy Mary Sue novel... but, otherwise, an Inquisitor has much more important things to be doing than training a pet monkey.

There is nothing more important in life than training a monkey.

I doubt every Ordo Xenos Inquisitor is always so busy they can't train an alien-monkey-thing to build a better weapon.

Death Watch sometimes use cloaking devices taken from dead Tau Stealth Suits. As they are able to re-engineering them.

The Death Watch sometimes use lance weaponry and all sorts of other stuff. The Inqusitiors give the death watch weaponry that is xeno tech to kill other xenos with. though sometimes they give it to the Ad Mech to re-engineer. And only given to high up peoples such as the inquisition its a cycle.

But its a monkey that can make laser rings and improve your weapons in ways you can't understand.

Inquisitors spend alot of time building up their personal retinue and local contacts. If a monkey can do useful things, and these can, then the Inquisitor will gladly spend the time to do it.

It's one thing to get a hold of a skilled veteran Guardsman or a badass bounty hunter... it's an entirely different thing to spend years teaching a giant monkey to build you a digi-laser, rather than a holovid watcher, instead of throwing poop everywhere.

@Uhlan

I imagine it's something as simple as the powers that be are racist and xenophobic, and don't want any outside influences on their people. You worship the emprah or die a heretic and all that.
