Actually... That work goes to the Coroner's office. Crime Scene Clean-up is usually a specialty for some cleaning companies.
You could work for the city/county picking up roadkill....
If thats your thing.

Scraping up bodies is actually a pretty high-paying job from what I've heard.
On a less icky note, office jobs in warehouses and factories tend to pay pretty well. Generally a little bit of computer literacy and an ability to count and file are all you need, and around here, where minimum wage is $10, they usually pay about $12-15.
As far as trades go, I believe pay is provincially regulated, so you should be able to find the info on your local government websites. Pay starts low ($10-12), but the ability to get up to $30-40 when you get your papers is where the hard work pays off.

That is another avenue to try... Working for the City, town or county. A lot of jobs don't get posted, just need to apply.
Also Postal workers get paid well and all you really need is to pass the test.

That a high school student expects great cash is really the problem nowadays, because it seems a typical thing.
There was a big discussion on radio 4 about youth unemployment, and the overwhelming consensus is that it isn't actually the employers or the governments fault, its the youth.
Kids today have such a sense of entitlement, none of them want a job if it involves actual hard work, or doesn't pay $40 an hour.
Im only 31 years old, but seriously.. the teenagers of today are such a pack of slack jawed jessies, they are scared of some proper work!
Short answer, don't expect good cash straight out of high school if you ain't willing to work your ass off.

If you have a lot of money to begin with, you could make money as a day trader. You could also lose it, kinda risky really.
Your best bet is to think about what you would enjoy doing, and then determine what you need to do to get there. If you do something you enjoy, the money will follow.

I'm with mattyrm on this, unless your family give you some sweet job in the family business you have to be real lucky land a good job straight off the bat.
Me I started working in a warehouse and worked as a doorman at nights to pay for uni.
The door work paid me £19 an hour and that was 15 or so years ago. Not bad for filling the odd annoying drunks face in.
There's always a demand for female doorstaff and you would only really be there to do searches on other females.

I'm currently out of college, and I'd like a job that gives me enough to pay the bills. 15 bucks an hour would be perfect, but I can't find anything, even in dallas. I don't think I've got too much of an entitlement complex, lol. If I can work 40 hours a week, make enough to not need parents money, I would be happy, and while I'm doing that I can work on getting a better job.
It's just not happening.

My problem is writing a CV and applying for things really, especially the former. I would be happy working for minimum wage for most hours as long as they didn't interfere with college, yet to get the job I have to write about myself at length which is exceedingly challenging.

Never a truer word. Student bars were a good gig but the best was a pub whose patrons were nearly all well to do creative types. I had to stop one fight in there in two years. Both chaps apologised profusely for the todo and left to avoid further embarrassment, easy money!

Hah, yeah Dogma has the right idea like, its all about location. A nice university would be the best one, or maybe a gay bar?
If you worked the door in one of the rough clubs in the Boro it would be a fething nightmare. I bet Newcastle would be hairy as feth too, remember that bloke who was famously on TV punching a doormans face in? They made a documentary about his life and death, he was called Viv Graham? A steroid addled fething lunatic who basically used to go out sober and attack doormen to gain a reputation for it. He got one too, 3 rounds ended his career though, he might have had ws 6 and s5, but he was only a two wound model.
If you were working a door and that fether came walking up the road though, imagine.. as soon as you saw his silhouette you would crack an instant facepalm!

In college I worked door at 2 places. One was a trendy club in downtown Minneapolis. That was a nightmare, there were fights every night, and you had about a 50% chance of having to throw a drunk, vomit covered girl in a cab. The other was a cop bar, which was ridiculously easy money and basically entailed hanging out with off-duty officers and occasionally getting preferential treatment when they would bust one of the parties we threw at my house.

Working security is usually pretty easy money. Most sites will pay around $10 an hour. It's especially good work when you're in college, because you mainly sit around (depending on the site) and you have plenty of time to study.

This. A million goddamn times, this.
Hell, I was breaking my back working a summer job at a truckshop in Alberta by 11 years old, and my family wasn't even poor. I've just always had an obsession with my money being something I earned myself. Luna, just take the crappy job, because it'll bring in more money than your sitting here on a computer asking how you can basically get money for nothing. In the meantime, apply for grants from the school to help ease financial burden.
Or, if you want to be able to get into a course when the next semester starts, get your parents to cosign a loan for you from the bank ( Don't take a student loan, the interest rates are ridiculous). Now that you're out of school, having a strong line of credit is something you'll want to your name. Without it, you'll have trouble ever getting... well, anything from the bank as far as loans go. Need a mortgage? Better have a good line of credit. Need a loan to help you buy a car? Better have a good line of credit. Etc... Just be sure you don't get in over your head. If the degree you're wanting has several cheaper first-year courses, finish some of them first. Chip away at it.

Just wash dishes. It's not fun, but it's not hard, either. The pay sucks, but it can be something to keep you busy until you find something better. I washed dishes forever before getting a better paying job, and I STILL wash dishes because it's pretty much free money, that's how easy it is. And it's not hard to get a job washing dishes either. Most places don't even ask for a job application.

ever considered working with kids, it often pays decently, and jobs can be found with just a HS diploma if your looking for a right now kind of job
(heres a cut and paste of my current job description as an example)
Mental Health Associate
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
Participates in the development and implementation of students' behavioral programs by providing care and close supervision of facility students and documenting behavior, by developing positive relationships with students and co-workers and following facility policies and procedures, by implementing treatment plans and providing crisis intervention as necessary.
basically, i stop kids from fighting or getting frisky with each other while also completing paperwork
another plus, the company i work for has 100's of facilities, so one could potentially transfer to a sister facility about damn anywhere

I don't think I can really help you here.
I did manual labor jobs and other crap to pay for college with my own money (with limited support from my father, whom has financial problems of his own so I hesitate to ask him for anything) until I was old enough that FAFSA didn't look at my parents income and am now using FAFSA to complete my education.

My advice is to either:
A) Go to additional schooling. This could be a standard college/university, or it could be a trade school.
B) Find a job that doesn't necessarily pay much now, but has plenty of upward mobility and future earning potential. Something like truck driving is great pay now, but you won't ever be making much more than you could now (adjusting for inflation). The best bet for this is to find a job where you're an assistant to someone skilled. Being the bottom rung chef in a decent restaurant, or contractor's assistant, or something like that gives you okay pay now, but will continue to grow in the coming decades.
