Hmm, iifc, the original Rogue Trader back in the late 80s stated that the Abhumans were all the results of humans who got stranded on far flung worlds from humanity's earlier space expansion. During their times there, they either were mutated by warp radiations or genetically altered for better survival on certain worlds. Both Ogryns and Squats were the results of heavy gravity/extreme environment worlds, while Ratlings and Beastmen were more likely caused by warp radiations. But, hey, its been a long time since I've read that book..

The only reason 'Abhuman' exists is because saying 'Mutants' is particularly frowned upon by the establishment. Ogryns are a combination of the gravity and warp radiation, but again, no one really wants to say 'Mutant' out loud or those funny people in the Victorian-Era garb might sweep you out of existance.
