Eh, 4th ed D&D is, basically, an MMO converted to a dice-and-paper RPG. However, contrary to the original D&D point made up-thread, the main goal of D&D, to whoever owned it (or owned TSR) was to generate profit. Before the advent of the MMO, however, the RPG market was fairly... well, there was nothing to compare it to or base it off of, except other RPGs...
