White Wolf had the whole Vampire thing sewn up quite a few years ago, in my opinion. Just excellent fluff, World of Darkness. Not so keen on what I've seen of the current incarnation. Don't like the new clans as much.

Some sort of World of Darkness, Old or New, would probably be my second choice.... as long as I'm not a Nosferatu, since they're a walking Masquerade breach.

Old WoD all the way, for me. Just purely because of the Sabbat. Bad fething ass. The Lasombra had such a cool power...

All of the old WW books were pure class, mind. Such a great setting. I always fancied playing Mage: The Ascension and Wraith: The Oblivion, but never got round to it.

If I were a vampire what powers would I want to have?

Castlevania: Mist Form (Just the Mist Form); being able to just phase through objects would be make me Like a Boss.

The speed, strength and endurance of the Warhammer Vampires (Capable of taking a lance through the chest and shrugging it off, and unhorsing someone one handed while stopping a galloping horse with the other.

Feeding of the Twilight Vampires (Don't judge me); basically, for those of you who didn't sacrifice their souls to read the books, they can live without feeding, but feeding supercharges them to even greater heights of strength.

Sunlight reaction of the Warhammer Vampires: Just weakens me tremendously, to only slightly better than human standards.

The hypnotic gaze of most popular Vampires; works on humans and animals.

And, as a final, stylish touch; my eyes turn red when I feed.

I'd totally be a vampire. I'd probably end up being a Morbius-type vigilante blood drinking crime fighter.

Sometimes vampires die if they don't drink blood. Sometimes it just makes them weak.

Sometimes a vampire's victims die if they are bitten. Sometimes they go on as if nothing happened. Sometimes they become vampires.

Sometimes vampires have super human strength, hypnotic vision, the ability to turn into bats, cats, wolves, or mist. Sometimes they have some combination of, all of, or none of the above.

Other than that, they seem to be pretty flexible, which is why a discussion of vampires needs to establish rules or use an established setting.

Wooden stakes? Kill sometimes, merely incapacitate others. Garlic? Depends. Silver? Depends. Running water? Depends. Ability to enter homes uninvited? Depends.

This is why I avoid like the plague any sort of freeform role play setting in which someone wishes to play a vampire; they generally pick and choose the best common abilities and leave out the weaknesses.

TL;DR: Any "serious" (and I use the term very, very loosely) discussion of vampires is pointless without ground rules laid out at the beginning.

EDIT: Sorry for the rant; it's not so much that I love vampires moreso than the fact that a lot of people who love vampires get really uppity that all vampires follow the same rules. I remember being berated in some game a long time ago for assuming that those bitten by vampires become vampires automatically. It was pretty ridiculous.

Thanks for that this is mainly because there are so many types of vampires that I wouldn't know where to start so I gave you all what I know...and now I know a few more types thanks.

Asides from that I would like to be a WFB vampire as there powers are awesome AND its magic that powers them not blood (although I would leave out the being evil type of thing though).

And probably team up with anyone that wants to be blade and try and kick alot of ass but then i will probably get sick of the game and retire to Australia living in the city where its probably safer to live a place that has windows that are made of fiber glass.

Then my swimming pool is holy water. And then everything else is protective against vampires. Should be fun. Anyway I will probably hunt all of you down if you turn into vampires.

Immortatility is a curse not an advantage. Never dieing is something really bad. It might be great at first but after a few hundred years it gets tiresome.

Then I come along and give you the benefit of the doubt of chopping off your head because your a souless blood sucker.

I feel no pity for the soulless in video games.

Why wouldn't I in real life?

I voted that i'd love to be a vampire. Not for any of the pro qualities mentioned (i.e wings, super speed and time control ((last one ive no idea where it came from happy)) ) but for the simple fact living forever will mean i can learn alot more than anyone, live if ever there is a nuclear war by feeding on rats (interview of a vampire style) and when it comes to the rebirth of our society be able to rule as a leader for my knowledge in advanced technologies, skills i have aquired over many a time and with this said knowledge go back in time, round up the worlds genious' / conquerors / and anyone down right worthy. just as they were dying and cure them in the present to help finish my history assignment. (just kidding!) and make an advanced society that will travel through the stars as the gods of men.

I'd also make everyone a vampire ( that was the "curing" i mentioned) to rule ovr each planet how they wanted and after all this go back in time to now live on the other side of the world in peace and watch myself do it all again from a different perspective to if i had done wrongly, and if i found that i did i would kill former self and stop all this from happening with a paradox.

Nah, im to gutless as of yet to do that, i'd go back further and live with dinosaurs/robots because i can.

Fear not, rumour control has it that the new owners of White Wolf (Eve game owning company?) has ordered the company to resurrect... (heh) the Old World of Darkness. Especially as they are making an MMO and didn't want it to be based off the bland gak from Requiem.

It might be a bit hard to be a vampire in this day and age.
If you lived in a castle at the small Transilvanian village and they believed you where a vampire,then it would be on the internet and Van Helsing would just get a bus to you and kill you.
