They have their own codex. Either they're popular or the GW executives like them

If you don't mind a few people screaming cheese at you, there's no reason why you shouldn't take them. People will shout cheese at most stuff.

I have toyed with the idea of the "Silver Skulls".
They are more into the mysticism of the Emperor.
You could see them getting into all kinds of trouble both with allies and various chaos factions. The look is clean and I could see painting weapons with some red to make it all pop.

Iron nights are a close second and again have a cool look. You could run them as Black Templar since they are similar in background.

Salamanders is a great choice. I also like the Imperial fists and DA. There are loads of really cool chapters that are less popular than the main 10 or so chapters. For example the mantis warriors and the charcharadons.
