Hmm, seems a cool idea.
The one bonus to the Fists I just thought of would be all my Great Marine Swap marines would fit in perfectly, as 'help' to the Fists

Fists can even get away with some Black Templar bits too, as a way of paying respect to Sigismund, the original Emperor's Champion of the Imperial Fists. I'll be using the Emperor's Champion model as my honor guard champion because he looks so rad.

I've got about 4700 points of Fists painted, plus a couple thousand more unpainted. The Emperor's work is never done.

Sometime soon I'm going to order some more paints so I can paint up a test model of a Fist.
Suggestions for the blues?

Agreed, Regal blue is a nice color, not too dark, applies very well over black. Highlights with Space Wolves Grey will give it some nice pop.

Best way to determine which? Read the novels associated with them. Rynn's world is probably my favorite BL novel so far, and both Pedro and Cortez are awesome beyond words. The Salamanders book had a bit less combat, but definitely shows alot about the promethean cult and whatnot. In the novels the only melta weapon that was fired (iirc) was against the salamanders, which i felt was strange. The fists just shot the gak out of an entire ork waagh with a handful of marines. Granted, the entire 1st company was part of that handful, as were all the dreadnoughts.

Both chapters are more 'human' than their contemporaries. They will normally go out of their way to save civilians/uphold their honor code. From a persona lpoint of view, CF are a more versitile army, because if your opponent hs the means to keep away from/ignore you melta... then.. well.. crap

I just recently finished reading the 2nd Sally book "Firedrake". Was definitely a good display of the how the Salamanders are (although the author went bit overboard at times on the fire/anvil/forge metaphors). It had a good deal of focus on Vulkan's Sigil and a the 9 Artifacts, some good combat scenes. He'stan had a good role and Tu'Shan was well portrayed the bits of it he was in as well. I'd say a recommended read for any Sally player, better than the 1st imo.

I've read Rynn's world and loved it, and I'm planning on picking up the Salamanders saga, but last time I was at a book store they only had books 2/3 and 3/3

both would be cool. Like a temporary alliance between them or they are both strike teams attached during a very very long campagin and kinda accepted each other as brothers in arms.

I have to suggest the Crimson Fist. I have seen way to many Sallie Armies and they are becoming so boring anymore.

Next question to possibly tip the scales {no pun intended}, how much are the CH/FW or whatever Salamanders pads?
Because all the C Fists packs on GW seem pretty cheap

£8.50 for 10 marine pads, same for a 5 pairs of Termie Pads, 1 with the sally icon and the other with the crux

Do something like this, where you have a small section of Crimsons on a planet overrun with the remanents of Waaagh! Snagrod, when the Salamanders show up, and Vulkan shows the Crimsons how to get the best from their Flamers.

Actually, that is a good idea!

Also, the Salamanders have a good reputation amongst civilians, or at least those on Armageddon. This is due to them fighting for the people of Armageddon, not just for the Emprah and Terra.

I had to swich the GW site to Uk to get the prices in pounds to compare, but for the Fists, its £6.65 for 10 pads, or £7.70 for 5 pads, 5 backpacks, and three heads...

Indeed. However, the FW pads are detailed and look awesome, but if I can get something cheaper, AND pay cheaper S+H its a bonus.
I'm not sold yet, however.

I do think the test model will be one of the biggest factors

For reference, here is one of my sallies. Tell me what you think ( please ignore the slightly warped bolter)

The model itself is nice. Plenty o green, black and gold, with some fire reference to solidify that it is, indeed, a Salamander.
And, before someone else says it, you should base it

I say Crimson Fists only because I don't ever see anyone using them.

In truth I think both are great looking forces with the Crimson Fists using a lot of veterans and well... fists,
and the Slamanders with extensive melta (I think the melta weapons are the coolest looking of the marine arsonal).

I dont base until I finish a project (if I switch theme but the bases dont match...)
However, if I go Fists, Im not repainting my 5 sallies vets, so I'll base them

I'm planning a CF army myself. My main marine force is Blood Angels but I always liked CF as my favorite codex chapter. I've decided to split my (massive) space marine collection into a Flesh Tearer army and a Crimson Fists codex army.
Here's what you can do, the Crimson Fists were nearly wiped at Rynn's World right? They are severely undermanned so why wouldn't they fight alongside an allied force of Salamanders? If you don't have Vulcan then the Sally boys are just more codex marines so who cares if your "Crimson Fist" army has some green squads in it? Conversely if you decide you want to play a Vulcan army then what's wrong with having CFs along to help?

I think an Armageddon themed force would be pretty boss. A very developed history to work with and a plethora of decorative options. Although you may want to do a count-as character for Vulkan He'stan if you go that route, since hiis role during that time hasn't been really illustrated. He was most likely recovering the current artifacts he has during that time anyways.

That's if you want to stick to fluff pretty hard, I'm sure He'stan could make a surprise visit if he wanted to.
