Not sure if this has been said already, and I'm not going to read every entry in the thread to make sure but...

... You can't respect the Nazis for what they did or what they represent, but you have to admit that they were the best-dressed army in the world.

On a more serious note... you can use Nazi imagery and symbols and such to represent evil, repression, totalitarian power, despotism, dictatorships, or otherwise just ass-kicking military power... all of which are hallmarks of the Imperium of Man... without being a Nazi yourself. I mean, let's face it, many of the IG models produced by GW bear more than a passing resemblance to Nazi troops (and Commissars look like Soviet military officers).

So you're saying that a setting featuring fascist iconography where humankind is protected from degenerate outsiders and inhuman beasts by the genetically superior children of a charismatic superhuman leader appeals to Neo-Nazis? Boy. I never saw that coming.

I have a Deviant art and there are alot of people like that on there. Its not worth getting upset about. Ive had people steal my art and what not off there. Its just the people on there, 90% of the people that play 40k are some of the best people ive met.

The Emperor extends His will to us when we destroy the wicked and impure to reconquer the galaxy in His name. The Emperor leads the galaxy to righteousness, and thus we must petition for His judgement on the wicked... for it is judgement without mercy..

Every game has its downers.
Im just happy we dont have the D&D community. Cults and the like.
Also, games workshop takes influences from almost everyone and thing on the planet. If you looked hard enough you could find a resemmblence to any army.

What? Artists on a site named "Deviant Art" are unusual and interesting, some might even say "deviants"? My monocle has popped out and landed right in my snifter of brandy!

While I will not let a minority determine my participation, I too would be hesitant to join a game for fun and find that every person I dealt with was a neo-Nazi or closet-Communist or PETA-to-the-end follower, or Jihadist-muslim I would probably steer a wide birth clear. OTOH one extremist does not make it something to be avoided and I would keep an open mind to participation.

Ok seeing this I feel compelled to respond. Please
understand my viewpoint.

These Neo-Nazi's are at least wanna be gakkers or at
worst, similar to something truly unpleasant.

I agree you have a right to be as stupid as you wanna
be but once you view other people as subhuman, then you
have crossed a line. So I would not want to associate with
them, even though I can still respect the quality of their art.

And I can speak on this matter firmly. I am the first American in my
family. One half is German the other Mexican. One of my grandfathers
is a Nazi and firmly believes that I am an abomination. And yes
Nazism is tied to racism, homophobia and anit-sematism, not just
nationalism.

So beware all those who read this post and take with a grain of salt.
I feel most modern Nazi's are just trolls going for a stroll, and have no
idea the horror of what being a real Nazi is and what it entails. So those
of you who don't know please don't take this word lightly.

2nd mistake: judging stuff by whats on Deviantart

3rd mistake: Drawing conclusions between whats on Deviantart and other things

anyone who would draw the conclusion that Neo-nazi's and Warhammer are closely connected from stuff found on Deviantart are NOT people we want playing this game. let them think what they will, but I don't want to be associated with stupidity of that magnitude.

I don't disagree with what you say, but I do have to say that I find your choice of avatars... ironic

The Crux Rosa is, of course, not a Nazi symbol, and does, indeed, date back several centuries in German history... but who do you think popularized the image for the Western audience?

its certaintly preferable to the Swastika, I actually like the Iron Cross.

The Swastika is actually a good luck charm in eastern europe(ironically used alot by people Hitler was trying to eradicate)

It would be like a Dictator arising who used the 4 leaf clover as a symbol. it would get tarnished really fast.

Exactly this. It matters little where a particular symbol arises from or originates from. Once it becomes associated with a particular undesirable or disliked element, it can be very difficult to shake that association.

My icon is the Eisernes Kreuz or in English Iron Cross, not the Crux Rosa. It has
little to do with Nazism and is based more on Deutschland's previous history.
Namely the Teutonic order.

And you are right Psienesis, my icon is a contradiction

Just because my grandfather is a terrible human being does not mean I dislike
my German history through my mother, who raised me.

And yes is there is a limit at being overly tolerant to the point of stupidity, but
I would rather deal with that problem instead of its polar opposite.

I guess the main problem with tolerance is when you start tolerating intolerance(ex: the majority of the world being fine with the intolerance in large industrialized Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia where they teach in schools that jews and women are bad)

^ Saudi Arabia is NOT industrialised. It's a bizarre country, the oil revenue and small population allows some of the best services in the world, despite being mainly populated with tribesmen.
The more wealthy Muslim countries on the whole tend to be more secular, i.e. Turkey and Malaysia. But that's not to say these countries don't have big problems with islamists.

First impressions are lasting. That's just the way we're wired, and yeah, sometimes it can put you off something you thought you wanted to do, then find out years later that's not what it's actually like/all about/what the people are mostly like.

It's not a case of being on your best behaviour playing against noobs (except for not screwing them over of course) but you don't say "I play 40k and I'm a Nazi" or "I play 40k and I'm left wing" or "I play 40k and I'm gay". You then associate the players and followers of the hobby with those particular groups of people.

Gamers talk about whatever they like; their political views or religious views, but tying it into their games, whether wargaming or RPG is just bad news.

Deviant art isn't as bad as people here are making it out to be. First you saying that 40k shouldn't be judged yet your judging an art site that you've never spent significant time on. As a deviant art member I disagree with your assumptions.

Its ashamed that the guy is such a good artist, that's why he has such a following, he gets a lot of views but few people who actually believe in what he represents. The strange thing is that its not racial or religious groups he's insulted that want to get him banned, its mainly Polish Nationalist and gays.
