Try focusing your units, i.e. they are anti-tank/they are anti infinatry.

The Guard's greatest strength is the ability to field large amounts of units, so go for more instead of fully upgraded (quantity has it's own quality)

The standard Leman Russ is silly powerful (high armor, fire on the move, versatile main gun), I field at least two if i can.

Use Orders! first rank/second rank can mince most enemy units and bring it down will almost always kill a tank.

Last, but certainly not least, what ever you think will do the job, double it. Overkill is not a bad thing, if you have an enemy unit posing a massive problem, make sure that a couple of units can take it down just in case one fails.
