Fall of Damnos was basically 'Assault on Black Reach, with Necrons'. It continued the development of the subplot from that book, interspersed with Space Marine and Ultramarines fighting. If oyu read it you don't read it for Sicarius - you read it for seeing how the individuall named marines Kyme created interact or react to the things around them (Sicarius, the humans they deal with, etc.) I actually rather liked it, because we had Space Marines who aren't looking down on or being all superior t humans - they find things that are admirable about them, even though there is still plenty of horrible hard, space-mariney choices they have to make. Unfortunately that was only part of the book, and you have to wade through alot of the battles to get to the interesting bits because the interesting bits are so tied up in said battle.

I'm not terribly fond of most of the SMB novels.. I mean they're okay but they're obviously meant to capitalize on Space Marine popularity to make money. The best two IMHO were Helsreach and Rynn's World. The latter was interesting in the sense that despite having tons of battles agaisnst orks (liek Rynn's World) you're also presented with that 'Space Marines having to deal with the mortals they must protect' thing - Pedro Kantor having to make choices between what is important to him really carry alot of the book. And Helsreach is good for much the same reasons (black Templar Chaplain having to interact with and deal with the humans he's involved with) and also because ADB is writing it.

SMB novels are good when they aren't just about Space Marines really, but that only covers part of the series.

Helsreach & The Gaunts Ghost books are great, The Batlle for the fang is also worth reading.

Eh. It had its moments, but I was more interested in the Magnus side of things really. I didnt like the Space Wolves characterisation, but thats purely personal and because I've always been a bigger fan of Bill King's take on them. I'm not finding myself enamoured of Prospero Burns (as far as its depiction of the Space Wolves that is - Abnett is still doing a good job on the writing end of things.)
