Obscura is definitely Opium, not Marijuana. Every single instance of it is in what is exactly a Victorian era Opium Den dropped into the 41st Millenium.

The descriptions of its effects also match the romanticized version of its effects in Victorian era literature.

A long while back i read a BL novel (it was terrible) but I remember clearly there was this rogue trader type in the eye of terror and he gets addicted to some drink that is made by leeching people's life force out in these vats. There's a demonette, and an astropath, and it's just a gong show of a novel, but that idea was pretty cool, about getting high off people's life force.

But they have regular tobacco? What I've read about Lho makes it sound more like space weed. It even has some random color of smoke that I can't remember right now.

I think there are different kinds of Iho sticks. some have Tobacco, some have space weed.

Its also possable that Tobacco has been altered at some point, possably splitting into multiple new species with different effects. Humans may have also altered it to have different colored smoke and different effects.


And who knows? I would bet there are a whole bunch of different drugs that have been discovered and cultivated in the 38,000 years mankind has been traveling the stars. The 40k drugs could all be alien in origin and have no relationship to our current ones(although I know Tobacco is used in 40k)
