I prefer Sabol to Battlefoam for Warmachine stuff because if you take the time you can really get your guys to have a perfect fit and so they won't move around at all and break.
If not for the fact that I already have Sabol for all of my GW stuff I would start useing battlefoam for them as the plastic models don't suffer breakage the same way as the metals.
Have you actually tried Battle Foam? I can not see what you can do to Sabol, that would get them a fit that is more perfect than what you could do with Battle Foam.
Yes I have tried Battle foam and some of my game group uses them for their 40k stuff. It is a great product but short of sending them my exact poses of models (I have many conversions and custom pieces) I can't get as good a fit for my minis as with the sabol pluck foam. Battlefoam has a slightly large pattern to their pluck pieces so they don't fit as tight, also the cost of the battlefoam pluck foam is a higher than the Sabol stuff and even though it is large I cant really fit many more minis in it with the support I want for my Warmachine stuff. I could go with custom fit foam but some of my stuff is hard to trace that tight and the cost gets high quick.
I don't feel that you can discredit a product based on personal laziness. Personally, I would much rather take the time to trace some minis to get custom cut foam than to spend all the time and effort to pluck the foam in an efficient way. They do all of the work for you, once they get the traces, and with pluck foam , you have to think about how to efficiently place them if you do not want to end up with a lot of dead space. Also, you talk about the pluck size of Battlefoam and Sabol, and how you like the support, but I don't think you realize that while you can not get the slots as close to the model as you prefer, the larger wall size would lead it it being sturdier than that of the smaller wall size.
Now, I feel that Battlefoam is more than sturdy enough for what you might need. Before I sold my Warmachine, and the foam with it, I could hold a tray full of metal models from the side, with one hand, and not worry about it giving, and falling. Even though I had not tried it with metal jacks, since I only had a few and they were plastic, I had set a weight on the side opposite the one that I was holding, and it stayed there just fine.
I could understand if you had based your posts on something like "they are to expensive for my tastes", but you go and make claims that do not really make much sense, and bring attention to how you did not want to give the full effort to looking in to Battle Foam, because some people in your game group had it.
To stay on topic, I suggest that OP should try out the new Battle Foam Shield bag. It will be 60 dollars + shipping. It is less than the motor pool or the army transport, and will hold more than the Army Transport MK 2, and close to what the sabol motorpool will, since It is all custom cut save the 4 inch tray.

I think that's what you are supposed to do for custom cut foam, insofar as you can forward the shapes you trace on paper to the and they do the rest.
I beleive that KR will do this too.
Anyway i thought that they didn't allow conversions in WM/H, why would you need something so custom?
It is difficult to trace some of the models. Warmachine allows conversions with limits however most of what I have is just different posing of the minis. The different poses makes some stuff fit different to what was cut out in the battlefoam stuff. I like my minis to look unique, especially when I have more than one of the same mini. I use some Battlefoam for my 40k and other stuff I also use GW cases as well as gun cases that I have custom cut foam for specific models. Calling me lazy is really uncalled for as you have no idea whether I have tried the custom cut process and have found that once again for "me" it is just not the best fit. (I have and use a couple of trays) If you read my original post you will see that all I said I have used it and friends of mine do too . When I orginize a tray for my models with any Transport system I try to get as little dead space where the model sits and a good ammount of room between models so the walls of the foam are strong. One of the things I like better about the battlefoam stuff I have is that they use a denser foam than other people.
I have never discredited any of the transport manufactures. I only stated that I prefered the Sabol for my Metal Warmachine stuff. As a matter of fact I never even stated that the OP should get one brand over another , just what I use.
On Topic the best thing to do is look at a variety of different options and choose the one that works the best for your needs.

Kouzuki wrote:Straight up. Battlefoam. No competition. You're paying good money for your miniatures. Just shell out a little bit more for permanent protection. Literally, you will never need another case again. I disagree. I would suggest that minatures stored using the KR system are significantly better protected than Battlefoam. With battlefoam your models are stored in semi-rigid foam inside a semi-rigid cavas bag, with as little movement in their slots as you can get from semi-rigid foam. You're then meant to store the foam in a different box (say, a plastic tub from a homeware store) and just buy a new foam loadout for each army. You transfer the foam loadout into the Battlefoam bag when you want to travel with that army. With the KR case, you store the models in soft foam that 'hugs' the model, allowing no movement, which then fits in a rigid card Multicase. The rigid cases then slot into a semi-rigid canvas 'Kaiser' bag for transport. The intention is that your models are stored in their card Multicases, and you just slot the multicases you need into the Kaiser bag for transport. So.. semi-rigid foam with a little room for movement, inside a semi-rigid canvas bag (Battlefoam), or soft foam with no movement room inside a rigid box, inside a semi-rigid bag, for half the price (KR).

Tablewar.com
These are becoming popular in the southwest and really get the job done.
Space for all your minis already on a display board, held down with magnets so the mini does not leave its spot.
The trays are adjustable in height to match your model sizes. It comes with a removable drawer for dice, codeci, pens, M&Ms. etc.
And yet we still havent seen any videos or reviews of them being traveled with in a car on a plane or in a boat. From what I've seen these cases offer little to no protection other then from dust while your storing them in your house. I half tempted to buy one of these cases, fill it with second hand minis and drop it off the roof of my car and show everyone what happens.

A huge downside to the magnet style transport is shear strength, or sliding.
If you brake your car quickly, the momentum of the models is strong enough to break the magnetic hold.
If you have a magnet & a refrigerator, you can test this.
It is very difficult to pull a magnet directly away from the surface of.the fridge.
But sliding the magnet is quite easy.
I think a combo of foam & magnet would work wonderfully.
A magnetic sheet bottom surface, with the vertical cut battlefoam.
Pricier than I want to go, but I think it would work.

I'm not a fan of eggcrate foam for miniatures. My brother used to use them and almosy always had models break in them. Foam trays with slots for models are far better.
Cutting holes in the eggcrate foam like that helps, but then you're spending good hobby time simply making a case, when you could be doing something more constructive. it also sucks for anything not a Guardsman or Space Marine.

I agree with you that it -like anything DIY- takes more time than just bying something. If you don't enjoy making things, the cash savings might not be worth it to you. I enjoy making them and would counter that the $40-50 savings is better spent on more models than a premade case, but time vs convenience is a personal valuation.
However you're way off with your final statement. My customized trays are in no way limited to marines and guardsmen. Read the entire thread and the pics show very clearly that you can customize eggshell for anything from a footslogger to a vehicle.
