I was born and raised in the sticks of Maine, I speak from experience.

When I go back to visit it is still like time traveling to the mid-eighties...

I've found my fellow canadians to be alittle more open minded, but that's mainly cause of where I'm from I believe. My hometown was drug capitol of the world for a while... we didn't have smog, they were trying to hotbox the ozone layer...
But i've found British Columbians have more in common with Auzzies than Brits. Over here in Oz it's too hot to give a damn half the time, back home it was in general too frikkin' cold.
But I definitly had more in common with the west coast Americans than the east coasters. Hell, our accents are even similar enough to be neigh on impossible to tell apart unless you have a good ear.

Our hats ended slavery.

I knew I had too much in common with Canucks when I saw Doc Cottle, (and to a lesser extent the blond cylon male) on BSG and thought "I should watch Da Vinci's Inquest again."

Yeppers and in the lowermainland we are still trying to hot box the world =o].

The only difference is, accent (you all have wierd ones and we don't have accents eh), money, personallities, attitudes, ego's and the fact that your Americans. =o] [/sarcasm off]

If you like di' Vinci's inquest ( it got really silly when he got elected mayor...but the show was loosely based on Larry Cambell's life, he was the Vancouver Chief Corner, then got elected mayor...sometimes real life is stranger then fiction.) check out Intelligence. It was a great show but the CBC killed it when a American network wanted to pick it up. It stars Ian Tracy (one of the cops the young one with a gambeling problem) and other local Vancouverites. Stargate was another good local Vancouver show. I just loved Jack O'Neill "Thats O'neill with two L's" =o]

By Jack O'Niell you mean MacGuiver right?
It did eventually get silly but it was still a pretty awesome show. Wasn't the Highlander TV show filmed half time in Vancouver? That new show with Amanda Tappig has another DVI alum in it.

Yes MacGuiver. gotta love him =o]

Sanctuary...I love Ms Tapping, but I can't stand her with blackhair and a fake british accent. I guess it's just to many years of seeing 'Samantha Carter' to picture her as anything else.

Yeppers to Highlander. It was mostly filmed down in Gastown in the downtown eastside. I liked it, it was a fun show but alas it got a little silly in the last seasion or two also. Then again I thought Battlestar Galatica was a masterpiece and just love it.

Ahh the lower mainland... Good times.
Most people are surprised how many shows are filmed in Vancouver/BC. It's hollywood north. I can think of many shows that I watched and went 'hey, I recognize that place!'.

Lost in a blizzard, somewhere near Toronto

Being just west of Toronto, I find that most of my fellow canucks are pretty laid back and easy going... (except on the roads, then you're risking your life playing a game of 'whos the biggest idiot?')
I mean, no other city is as accepting of their team as Toronto... Each October the Make-ya-Laughs bandwagon rolls out riding a 5 game win streak, only to be brought back to reality come deadcember, and then the collective shoulder shrug, and Torontonians go back to their mantra of "there's always next year!".

(What do you expect, I'm a Habs fan! )

Seriously though, Toronto is never living down that they called in the army reserve to shovel their snow for them...

One thing Canadians need to remember is that there's a lot of Americans. If we take all these stereotypes and say 100% of Canadians are polite, liberal, love hockey and socialists (which of course we are not all) then there are still more Americans with Canadian Ideals than there are Canadians period.

But don't forget that if you're not a polite, liberal, hockey-loving socialist, then you're not a real Canadian.

They're even more liberal, hockey-loving and socialist then the rest of us. Don't know about polite though...

If America was founded by a group of people who were too uptight for the British, then Quebec was founded by a group of people who were too liberal for the French.

I love Canada, the people are generally nicer than we Americans are. Your little maple-shaped maple cookies filled with maple cream icing are the most awesome thing on the planet. You brew good beer, and you breed my Favorite Canadian of all-time, the genius hobbyist Steve the Kamloopian
