To ship these cases to Australia often costs the same as the case itself, making it an incredibly expensive investment.

I support that tutorial, you gotta be a little creative in this and it will be -much- cheaper. It doesn't even have to be a pistol case, you can probably get any hard case and some foam from any DIY store.
