Hello Dakka!

I'm still pretty new to the scene, but after having (almost) completed a standard sized Space Marine army, I decided to start on the Orks I still had. And I thought, maybe it would be fun to make a WIP thread about it? So, here we go, I suppose.
For my last birthday my mom got me the AOBR set. Now I know these models might not be very exciting to some, having seen them a million times over already. But it forms a nice basis on which to build my warband. Besides of that, I managed to get hold of a giant bits bag on ebay, which contained a mob full of old (90's.. I think! maybe someone can tell me) orks. This would give my warband a lot more character. I'm not a wonderchild with greenstuff, but I'll try and make small modifications here and there.
I decided to go for the bad moons clan, because I like the fluff and the yellow simply looks awesome.

So beneath a few pictures of what I have painted so far, and a few examples of what I mean with those old orks. I hope someone can indentify the exact year of them... that would be nice.

My standard AOBR warboss whom I finished yesterday. Quite happy with the paintjob I did, still need the touch up here and there.

General idea of how my boyz are gonna look. I'm planning to make all my orks slightly different skin tones by mixing a different amount of yellow and blue every time, together with some standard green acrylics I have. Them being bad moons, I gave them some golden teef. Not sure how else to indicate that they're "rich", seeing as these boyz are unmodified and exactely the same as any other ork army. Maybe this is where I can practise my green stuff skills.


So here are the orks I would like identified (it's not all of them. I have plenty more, but they're still in bits, expect pictures later on). I -love- the guy with the sunglasses and hat... some of these don't have weapons yet and need some modification to make things fit, I'll have fun doing that!

Badmoon Orks have always been my favorites, great idea with the gold teef, simple and effective. Those Orks are from the nineties, first plastic Orks ever, tons of character.

A quick update on something I've been working on. In the massive bits bag I got off ebay, there were parts of (another) AOBR warboss. A few parts were missing, such as the powerclaw (cut off), the backpack and the head. No problem, I though, because I wanted to make him look different anyway. I would use this warboss as an alternative to my first, to be able to switch between options and keep things WYSIWYG.
The twin-linked shoota I converted into a shoota-skorcha, since orks are pretty bad shooters and a single flamer attack might come in handy as you're about to storm into close combat. The powerclaw I had to scratch build, and I had quite some fun doing it. I simply used some swords from the massive amount of leftover arms I had. I went for a five clawed design here because I think it looks pretty cool, and it's big, and for orks big = better. Now I know it still looks pretty sloppy, bits of greenstuff aren't nicely smoothed out and such, but I will work on that.
For the head I used a nob head, but I might do something creative with it still (seen designs with police caps before, those look pretty bad-ass). And finally for the backpack, I have no idea what I used!! It also came in the bits bag and I was simply fiddling around and I thought it looked cool. Looks like it's from a vehicle or something, anyway, makes for a pretty mechanic looking backpack type thing, inspired by space marines maybe?
Also thinking what to do with the rest of the body, seeing as that is exactely the same as my other warboss. I could possible greenstuff him some clothes.







Edit: Also some bad news. my favorite brush ran out of hairs, noooo! This always happens to me ): Oh well, I'll just have to go to the shop tomorrow, get my lazy bum on my bicycle

Ok got a couple more construction pictures. Bear with me, I'll upload more pwetty pictures of painted models soon (I just prefer taking those in daylight and my days are pretty long these weeks). I did get myself some new paint brushes so I am happy! The photo's below are basically what I could construct out of left over scraps, which left me with a not-too-shabby mob of orks! They're a mish mash of everything, but I think I like em that way

First up a metal Ork nob which I fitted with some weapons. The hammer/bludgeon type thing has a bit of a wonky handle, but I'm gonna fix that with a knife and some proper super glue (ran out, gah!)


And the "scrap-orks" (sorry they're all a shown at an awkward angle, they don't have bases yet, as you can see)

Yeah it was amazing haha. Spent a couple of minutes in utter glee. There were also a couple of fantasy Orks in there, which I didn't mind, 'cause who says I can't use those weapons as close combat weapons either? Makes for more variety.

Shotguns are the best also. spray bullets everywhere!

Ok got a bit more painting done. It's not a whole lot, but I think I'll be painting some more tonight





Forgot to finish the teeth on this guy, gotta go back and do it (my orks do have amazingly shiny teef, lol).

Made a couple of urban looking bases today, I'm quite happy how the concrete effect turned out

They're coming along very nicely. Nice mix of different generations of Orks too, I might add.
