Now to go remove falcon parts from falcons

No! Never remove parts; just proxy!

In future, magnetise your vehicles so that you can change them when need be!

I just would like to point out that Falcons can be useful, so if you don't want to scrap them you probably don't have to.

[267] 10 Dire Avengers- Exarch, Bladestorm, 2 Catpaults : Serpent- tl Scatter Laser

versus

[245] 5 Dire Avengers, Falcon- Lance, Holofields

Putting a squad of 5 Dire Avengers in a Falcon gives you more anti tank shooting, as well as a better protected scoring unit.

having a few well protected scoring units can really help you win games, especially if your aggressively placed Bladestormers just happen to die (and they WILL die all the time against good opponents. Being bunched up outside of a wave serpent is NOT a good place to be)

I would also say you should swap those Serpent Bright Lances to Scatter lasers. Scatter Lasers are better against Rhinos and Razorbacks, which are still the most common transposrts in the game, as well as being more versatile against infantry. Also if you switch over to 1 or 2 falcons you can kit them out with s8 fire power.

Remember that Falcons make great early targets for Guide as well. Nothing like making sure those s8 hits connect.

I suppose you are wondering why everybody got upset about dragons in a Falcon and I'm suggesting Dire Avengers. The reason is that Dire Avengers are scoring. The purpose of a squad of 5 Dire Avengers isj just to take an objective and sit on it. The purpose of the Falcon is to blast away with 3 s8 shots per turn. Well... if you blast away FROM an objective, you have a durable scoring gunboat that will be a pain in the ass for your opponent to remove!

I'd wager that replacing one of your Bladestormers with a DAVU (dire avenger vehicle upgrade) Falcon would make your list a bit better.

EDIT: I also don't like all the Exarchs on the Dragon squads. If you dropped them and just ran naked 5 man avenger squads you'd save just over 120 points! Hear me out. Fire Dragons are so good because they are cost effective. What I mean to say is that being able to purchase 5 bs4 melta guns for 80 points is a deal so good that it makes Imperial Guard's mouths water. When you start adding upgrades, like ~40 point Exarchs, and more members what you are essentially doing is making the squad a lot more expensive for very little extra return (since 5 melta guns are very likely to wreck anything even WITH cover). This waters down the cost effectiveness of the squad and essentially loses what makes the squad so amazing in the first place!

As for what you can buy with those extra points, my vote goes for War Walkers. They are an awesome unit in our codex, and they are pound for pound the most heavy weapons you can bring to bear for the points. Grab 2 with Scatter Lasers for 120 points. It gives you another target to cast guide on, and their volleys will do good damage even without guide. You can run them separate or together based on how many heavy support slots are available. Infact you can make your list better by trying to cram more of these in, such as the points saved by swapping lances for scatter lasers on your serpents (trust me, with 3 squads of dragons and possibly a falcon you will be covered against av12+)

@akaean could you make up a 1500pt list with all these things in for me, if that isn't too much trouble... I'm interested to see your take on this list...

Thank you everyone for your comments!

Yea sure, no problem . Applying my advice above and doing some tweaking to squeeze it into 1500 points, I come up with something like this.

[135] Farseer- Runes of Warding, Spirit Stones, Doom, Guide
[180] 5 Fire Dragons : Wave Serpent- tl Shuriken Cannon
[180] 5 Fire Dragons : Wave Serpent- tl Shuriken Cannon
[267] 10 Dire Avengers- Exarch, 2 Catapults, Bladestorm : Wave Serpent- tl Scatter Laser
[267] 10 Dire Avengers- Exarch, 2 Catapults, Bladestorm : Wave Serpent- tl Scatter Laser
[60] 5 Dire Avengers
[170] Falcon- Missile Launcher, Holofields
[120] 2 War Walker- 4 Scatter Laser
[120] 2 War Walker- 4 Scatter Laser

Total: 1499 points

If you wanted to use both your falcons / don't have any war walkers,

You can drop both war walker squads, take another 5 man avenger squad and a Falcon with a Bright lance and holofields. comes out to the same number of points- 240 for either 2 squads of 2 war walkers, or the extra scoring falcon. So whatever.

Striking Scorpions are in my opinion the most badass looking models in 40k and I love them to bits. But on tabletop their lack of fleet and the fact Dire Avengers already kill infantry more reliably and with less risk kinda limits their usefulness, even with Infiltrating. I used to play 6 of them and all they did was limit my opponent's deployment zone, which is nice, but not worth their points, imo.

If I'd pick a CC squad, I'd go for Banshees, since they deal with something our other units have difficulty dealing with: FNP. If you ever played BA and spent two bladestorms on a single squad of FNP Marines, killing 1 model, you'll know what I mean. And FNP is getting more and more common with every new codex(bar the new Necron dex, thankfully), so Banshees are only getting more useful as time goes by.

That said, I don't have any CC elements in my 1500-2000 Eldar lists. I find I have more than enough mobility to escape any and all foe trying to assault me, or at least make it damn difficult for them to destroy me(needing 6's to hit is a lifesaver for mechdar).

To the OP: I understand your reluctance in removing the squad's exarchs. In a casual list, I like my squads to have more personality as well. So if you're dead set on playing them, I think the only thing you could do at this point is to change the scatterlaser on the Falcon to an EML with your remaining points. When you think about it, a Falcon is most likely going to be using his Pulse Laser to kill AV12 tanks and MCs. Scatterlaser isn't particularly good at either case, while EML would be just perfect. What's more, the range of a scatterlaser is 36", while Pulse laser is 48", so that might cause some problems. EML is also 48", so those two guns compliment each other perfectly. Also, you don't really need all those Brightlances. You already have 2 squads of FD, which is enough for any Land Raider list at 1500 points, since there won't be more than 1 or at most 2 AV 14 in your opponent's army. Changing Brightlances for EMLs and giving your Serpents Spirit stones would be points better spent, I think and would add to survivability of your troops.

Hmm... I see what you mean about the scatter lasers... I'll see what I can squeeze in...

And yes, I do have a squad of banshees in reserve for those days I need them... Hopefully I won't though...
