English Assassin wrote:Warhammer 40,000 has long been established as a Hobbsean "war of all against all" (or rather "bellum omnium contra omnes", which sounds so much more appropriately grim) so no, it would be entirely contrary to the tone and style of the setting.

If you want super-friends teaming-up to fight evil aliens go and play a Star Trek game or some other generic space opera setting.

Not during when the game is based, but in warhammer 45,000, say.

Good point though.

I guess an IoM + Necrons alliance has a much higher chance than an IoM vs anything. Just to think about it:
1. The Necrons want their fleshy bodies back
2. They use biotransfering for this: they simply swap their souls between bodies.
3. What is the race in the galaxy that is not Old One originated and have plenty of available bodies for biotransfering? Yep. It is the humans.
4. The Necrons already have a beachhead (sort of) in the IoM with the Adeptus Mechanicus.
5. After the biotransfering, the Necrons can easily take over the whole IoM. With their shiny new human bodies, they could rebuild their empire quickly, using the already available resources of the IoM.

The Imperium and Eldar have allied in the past, the most notable is during the Gothic War when they actually engaged in joint operations. While xenophobic, the Imperium is not stupid, and if the only way to survive was to be allied, well...
