I always play to win, but not at the expense of fun.

I've only just returned to the game (haven't actually played under 5th edition rules yet) but one of the main reasons I gave up was because of our diminishing group ended up with mainly WAAC players.

I want to see my Carnifex get whooped by lone guardsman just for the giggles

I play for fun, although for a good game I try to win and hope my opponent does too. If they just want to make smarmy comments or try doing something stupid because their idiot friend dared them to then the fun is gone and I'm stood at a table for maybe 4 hours and the fun is gone.

100% for fun. I mean I play to win, but not "win at all costs!!" i got tabled end of turn 2 last night vs space wolves, it was my buddies super competitive tourny list and he has about 4 years gaming on me so I fully expected him to win. I still had a lot of fun and learned what to look out for for our next game. If you take every loss as a learning experience, it's not that bad

For fun. What is the point of playing if you do not find it fun. In my gaming group we mainly build our armies mostly by the looks.

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.

Probably fun. I mean I only play games with my friends, but when I play, I do what I can to win.

I dont think I would really like tournaments. Too many WAAC guys imo

You're trying to create a distinction where none exists. Everybody who plays 40K plays for fun. It's a game. If it wasn't fun, they wouldn't play it.

There is no arbitrary scale to gauge a player's level of seriousness, no cut off point where you're no longer 'playing for fun'. The casual gamer who cares more about pretty models or pushing his battlewagon around the board making 'Vroom! Dakka Dakka!' noises is playing for fun. The win-at-all-costs player who spends all his free time reading the rulebook, min-maxing his army list and looking for every last scrap of advantage for his games is playing for fun. It's simply what each player considers the fun way to play the game that differs.

This sums it up perfectly.

I dont really care if I win or loose, I play to enjoy myself, and seeing that I play the same opponets regulary WAAC is not a probelm, I think we are generaly too lazy for that.

Its all for fun, it is a game.

However the only thing i hate is when I do play a random person in a store and they flip because they are losing.

I love having fun, beer and pretzels and pizza are all good, but when I get a good game going its all this "Crush your Enemies!...Drive them before you! and hear the lemetations of the woman!" sorry a bad Arnold empression. I hate the type of gamer that refuses to play because someones army dont have 3 colors on it or Hay thats not a GW model. To prissy for me, I say bring it and battle and lets all have fun.

What if its a brand brand new player that just wants to test certain units out in game before he buys them?

It's all fun. If someone wants to play a more competetive game or an uber-polished list I think just a quick "do you mind if...?" should be used and a compromise. I personally love the wierd fun games with odd special rules but most people at my FLGS are more 'tabled you first turn' kinda guys.
