I'm actually finding that Lol has too many champions, the game doesn't really need any more imo.

Need? Probably not, is it fun? Hell yeah! Do it does suffer from the same thing as LoL, where new heroes are always either crap or overpowered untill an update or 2 fix them. (I'm looking at you Phoenix).

Heres the current roster:

You can't get kicked from games in LoL.

The only way to get good at it is practice, practice, practice even once you're good people will still rage at you though. These games maybe intimidating at first but once you get good at them they can be quite fun

and addictive.

Sounds like you had some bad teammates as well.

General tip for any beginner.

Don't go toe to toe with any heroes unless your team outnumbers them. Stay as far away from the combat while still participating (ranged hero required). You'll still be dealing damage and helping the team, while lowering the chance of being killed. Don't be overly cautious, don't be overly agressive.
Caution will have your team hating you for not doing anything, agressiveness will get you killed.

I don't know HoN's heroes, but try finding a ranged caster that only has direct damage spells. Easy to play and learn the general game with, without having to mind to many of the shenanigens.

Ask your team for advice and more importantly, item builds for your hero. This is also the best way of running into someone friendly enough to actually help you out and show you some tricks.

I think having a hero with a bit of cc is good too as it makes gap closers less dangerous, provides an escape mechanism and helps the team..

Oh, I was thinking close combat.. no wonder it didn't make sense XD

And well, I'm thinking Lina from Dota.

Has damaging wave spell, an AOE damage+stun, a buff for attack speed. And a high damage instant blast as ultimate.

She's easy to pick up but her potential decreases a lot with late game because spell damage doesn't scale in DotA.

I'd say focus on early-mid heroes anyway, anything that requires lots of farm will be beyond you without having practiced last hitting A LOT.

How's jungling on HoN? Cause it's really viable on DotA, especialy with heroes like Lycan and Axe.

What does that have anything to do with it?

Don't let anyone fool you; the only way to spend money on LoL is to buy Champions (Only if your too time constrained to get them the normal way) or to get skins (Which do NOTHING except look awesome/change your voice). You can't actually BUY power in LoL.

Good choice going with LoL! it actually looks like kind of a tough week to start out- I'd suggest Zilean (ranged caster with support buffs) or Caitlyn starting out. Caitlyn is probably your best bet. She has the 2nd longest range in the game, a move that blasts you away from the enemy, and a mine that stuns people. She's a very safe ranged hero.

Caitlyn is pretty easy to get into. I tried her earlier today and it went pretty smoothly for someone I've never played.

Caitlyn is probably the easiest RDPS to play as; she has a pretty good peircing attack, a mine, and an amazing escape ability. Couple that with an unblockable Ultimate, and you have a pretty dang mean character.

I still prefer Sivir to her, though.

Not as amazing as it seems at first glance unfortunately. It helps to escape if there is only one target, but unfortunately it is rather touchy and sort of easy to counter. Hit with nearly any CC as she starts to or is in the process of using it usually cancels it and rather harshly too. But, her range is her strong point and the main part of the ability isn't escape but to keep distance from them. Her traps are her real escape skill. Corki is a bit easier in my opinion though. That being said I mostly play Ashe when it comes to a proper ranged carry, Cait occasionally and any other time I'm a ranged DPS I'm Teemo. He can get surprisingly tanky while still being able to dish out a lot of damage.

Yet I constantly see people get a Rylai's on him...

Is caitlyn a hero you have to buy? If so it will be out of the question till sunday.

RIght now she's on the free rotation. LoL rotates the free heroes every week or so. It provides an excellent way to play with champions and see which ones you want to pay cash for or spend your preciously obtained IP (in game currency gained by playing matched).

You can buy her sooner using real money, but I recommend against buying champions with cash. If anything it's for the rune pages or skins only.

Also for runes don't bother buying any until you unlock tier three at about level 20 if I remember correctly.

Yep, that's correct.

Caitlyn's on free rotation very often, so you should have no trouble getting your hands on her.

I'd suggest trying out a variety of roles, and finding one that suits you. If you're with a team that you regularly play with, you can focus on learning 2-3 champions for a single role within that team. Otherwise, you should learn a wider variety of champions, so that you can assist any team you end up queuing with.

For example, I only play with a group of 2-3 other friends. With that in mind, I tend to play AD champions who specialize in either jungling or assassination.

On the other hand, if I were playing with randoms, I still have a wide selection of champions at my disposal that I know how to use to fill a variety of roles that a team may need.

When you're starting out, start by playing a few vs AI games, so that you can learn to understand the basics of laning and itemization. Don't worry about jungling yet. Riot tried to change the jungle to make it easier for lower levels, but they didn't really fix anything in that sense (but they did make Shaco HILARIOUS), and newbies trying to jungle will find themselves falling behind and becoming useless very quickly, since they lack the runes and masteries to clear jungle mobs fast enough to keep up with their lanes. Additionally, competently jungling requires a much greater sense of awareness and communication, and it's very easy to be shut down if you're not careful (it's something I'm still going through the pains of learning).

You should definitely check guides for the champions you're interested in. I recommend solomid.net for probably the best selection of high quality guides. Keep in mind that the game is constantly being rebalanced and updated, so guides that havn't been updated in a while tend to be very out of touch with the current metagame. Especially with the new jungle and mastery trees introduced.

Here's a brief rundown of the roles in LoL:

Tank: Generally durable characters meant to protect squishier members of the team. Although survivability is a major factor towards being a tank, it is not the only factor. There are plenty of durable characters out there that are not tanks. The most important capacity of the tank is the ability to control the fight. In doing so, they force the enemy to either attack them, or make them unable to target their most desirable targets. It's also the role of the tank to initiate, or start fights. As a tank, you're the first in, and the last out (if you do make it out). Tanks are less gold dependent to operate effectively, allowing them to be more free in sacrificing themselves to help teammates. Expect to die lots, but learn to make those deaths count.

Tanky DPS: Durable damage dealers. Not true tanks, in the sense that although they are durable, they cannot actually control a fight, at least not in the way a true tank does. Tanky DPS are sustainable and versatile, and this allows them to be effective in solo-lane situations, where they benefit from the farming more than a tank would, but are also much more reliable than other offensive options.

Ranged AD Carry: Squishy characters who deal lots of damage. They require a lot of farming in order to be effective, but once farmed, their output is simply devastating. Typically, late game, its the carries that will win you the game, but not without the support of the rest of the team to ensure they actually get there. Ranged carries tend to lane on bottom, accompanied by a tank or support who'll forgo last hits (ie, gold) in order to syphon it towards the carry who they're assisting.

AP Carry: Similar to AD carries, AP carries focus on spell damage. They typically have higher burst damage than AD carries. It's popular for AP carries to take the solo mid lane, since it funnels them the gold and experience they desperately need.

Support: Similar to tanks, who focus on assisting the team, supports do so in a less direct way, by helping improve their allies through buffs, healing, and other effects. Similarly to tanks, supports are generally less reliant on farm to be effective, allowing them to take a back seat to the farming of the carries. Additionally, although map control and awareness is important to every member of the team, Supports tend to emphasize this roll more than other roles (with the possible exception of the jungler). As such, the Support will also likely spend a fair amount of time warding the map to keep teammates aware of what's going on in the match.

Assassin: As the name implies, assassins are all about killing targets. Specific targets. Assassins tend to pack a lot of single-target burst damage, and are capable of eliminating a squishy target almost instantly, but tend to lack survivability and sustainability, making them weak in prolonged battles and teamfights. Additionally, they're poor fighters against less squishy targets (since they're usually squishy themselves), and tend to get eaten alive by Tankier foes (for example, as Talon, I would never engage someone like Irelia). The job of the assassin is to isolate squishy targets (supports, carries, and other assassins, typically), and neutralize them while bypassing other enemies that would stop them (tanks, tanky DPS).

Jungler: Although junglers can fill many of the roles listed above (and this depends on the champion, for example, Shaco's a great assassin and jungler). The role of the jungler is to forgo levelling up in lane, and rather levelling up in the jungle on neutral enemies. The jungler ends up freeing up the top lane to be a solo lane (allowing for more exp and gold to go to a single character), while also securing buffs and maintaining map control by warding their own and the enemy jungle. Additionally, the Jungler can also intercept and interfere with the enemy jungler. One of the most important features of the jungler, however, is the map control they maintain via the threat of ganks. Since the enemy generally won't be able to tell where the jungler is until wards are placed or until the jungler attacks, the jungler is able to assist teammates by ganking enemies who have pushed too far. Quickly coming out of the jungle to aid a lane under fire can quickly change the tide of battle, and can win entire lanes.
