I agree. Personally, I would love to see even more units in codices, and each with proper artwork (or better yet, descriptions!) and tons of generic pieces of whatever, that players could use to kitbash new and amazing (or horrendous!) models. It's nice to have the models ready-made, but it's starting to get very expensive with Finecast becoming more predominant. I kinda like the idea of codices like the Tyranids, wherein so many MCs are completely open to interpretation. ...troops would suck to not get models for, though.

I pretty much hate that important models like the Tervigon, the best AT we have (Tyrannofex) don't have models. I'm not the most crafty guy and painting is about the limit of what I look forward to with respect to the artistic part of this hobby.

That was nothing to do with the model range. It was a design choice for 3rd edition. They were smaller because they were missing all the fluff sections, not from a lack of different units.

You are missing the point. Do you believe that the codexes of the old era contained the same number of different units than the newer ones? Less units means smaller codex. I am not talking about the amount of fluff at all.

I am talking about the amount of units in the codexes of that era. The Design Studio (via Jervis Johnson) have explained that they let the speed with which they could produce/design the models dictate the units in the codexes.
This has changed both due to the speed of design (CAD) AND the change in philosophy. The Design Studio decided that they would rather include units in the codexes (and let people convert the models themselves) than deliberately cut said units.

I really hope that this philosophy prevails and that the insistent whining about missing models is ignored.

I pray that you people out there realize what you are asking for. The constant complaining might not lead to the increased production speed that you hope for, but rather a given unit being cut and not being present in the relevant codex at all.

The 3rd ed Ork Codex included 32 different units. The current codex has 26.

But no, I got your point. In general the codexes were smaller. You think that's because they were trying to release models for everything. I think it's simply because they generally add new stuff in when they redo a codex.

Because most of the 3rd edition codexes didn't receive models for every unit.

I'm not hoping for an increased production speed. I'm pointing out that it would (in my opinion) be preferable for GW to have models available for all of the units listed in the codex. If that means fewer new units when they redo a codex, that really doesn't bother me. We don't need half a codex full of new units every time they revise an army. A couple here and there to add something new, with tweaks to the existing units is more than sufficient.

I agree with you 100%.

That is not a prize I am happy about paying.

Then again I might be strongly influenced by being a Dark Angels player in a deepstriking-sternguard-giant-wolves-baby-carrier-would-you-like-more-of-those-sir kind of world.
