They didn't take them at all. All you had to do is show up at you friendly LGS, show them your V1 book, you then would have your book stamped / stickered (I don't remember wich anymore), and got a free mini-rulebook.

No, but calling other people wan*ers does show that you have an atitude problem. Also attacking someone based on their nationality also shows you have an atitude problem (its called xenophobia btw).

W/E man, itas a game about plastic tanks and dewds, chill.
As for the rulebook stamping, I asked the CLGS about it, and in typical fashion, he had no idea what I was talking about, so no news on that front. I'll guess we will see a post on the BF site about it after Christmas as they hope people get hardback rulebooks between now and then!

Atention, wild speculation following!
The only thing that was "announced" was the Mini Rulebook and it is shown with a 0.00 price, so suposedly that will be the rulebooks that PP will destribute to the V2 Hardback owners...
That is wild speculation, but that was what they did in the V1 -> V2 transition. The free mini-rulebook actually came a few months before the hardback version, so much so that the hardback version ended up with the errata of the mini-rulebook already printed within (this included a rather large change on how Recon teams worked if I remember correctly).
In any case, I have serious doubts that V3 will be released before February / March at the earliest.

You can have my hardback V2 rulebook when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. It's three years old and still has its new book smell. And that's not from lack of use. It was built to last.

I've been here a while and l like to think I'm a freindly guy, I say nice things about peoples stuff and I provide useful links to people after info, I even put up the occasional bit of news. I don't happen to like BFs corperate attitude and that is my opinion and I am entitled to it, you disagree with me and your entitled to that too.
But being a sarcastic Wan*er, well no, your not entitled to that. I'm fine with my "attitude", I don't feel the need to try and score points off people with snippy little sarcastic posts, but if thats what you need to do to feel good about yourself.......................

Finally, the level of immaturity was getting annoying.
Anyway, for those that don't know, the mini-rulebook in alliance's catalog was priced at zero dollars. That, and the fact that it was a mini-rulebook pretty much means they'll be doing the same thing they did when they switched from V1 to V2, free V3 mini-rulebook for everyone who has an unstamped V2 full rulebook.
I never bought the full main rulebook, just open fire and Das Book. For as much as I like FoW, I also know there's aspects that could be made better, with some things being made more historical, and other things that could be tweaked a bit more for usability since they chose to include them on the table.

There's always room for rule changes in any game. There is no "perfect game" out there. No matter what somebody will find a complaint about a rule. If they even do release a V3 then so be it. I look at it like this. Firstly they probably will do some sort of book exchange. Secondly the rule book and maybe one other book is all you really need to play. You don't need a codex for every army you think you might like to play. If you think about it with the official and free PDF's they offer you could really get by with just the rule book. This was bound to happen. Games that don't evolve are games that are no longer around. When you get down to it this is still one of the less expensive games to play.

Additionally, you can use Easy Army - you can get all the lists from a book for $1-$2 dollars apiece, and the guy's been officially backed by Battlefront. Sure he doesn't have all the books up, he's got an extensive range, and even has some books (Blitzkrieg, for example) for free.

Well it's officially official. Issue 291 of WI just dropped through my door. Page 64 full page advert for V3 launch.
The advert confirms that as with V2 they will be giving a FREE mini version A5 size 294 pages to all hardback rule book owners (small print advises proof of ownership may be required - presumably to stamp).
The date - FEBRUARY 2012.
And Aldramelech's statements that BF are just like GW and that BF would never again offer a free version of their rules to previous rules owners is spot on... oh wait!

Hopefully so, I'm looking forward to seeing what else changes. I have a feeling that all that we've seen may only be the tip of the iceberg. There's probably other more major, and many more subtle changes to the game.
I'm also a bit concerned about the previous books. It hasn't been that long since TT and ES, and those are also major compilations that a lot of people use. Hopefully those will get a good errata document since I suspect there's a lot of things in V3 that I want to use more.

Open fire is a better bet right now since you're getting miniatures in it, and just a mini-rulebook which will be obsolete in a few months once 3rd edition comes out.
Right now you can actually go ahead and start buying miniatures. The nice things about historical games is that your company make-up can't really change all that much.
So think of what kind of army you want to play, and go from there.

Might see Medium and Light Armour have more of a decisive battlefield role especially if certain units are able to move and fire at their full ROF rather than 1.
I quite like BF, i like the way the website runs, I like the way they seem to be small and dynamic and not yet a coporate leviathan like GW. I also like the way they have adopted some players out there, like Greg who created Easyarmy.com. GW would have had that shutdown, BF went the opposite direction and brought in house. Admittedly they didn't approve it, but saw the merit in it and avoided destroying the site in order to protect their IP.
Here's to more of the same, and hopefully the Pacific Theatre and a Korean War series too. British Centurion Tanks please!

I don't think the will release Pacific theater/Korea in this edition. But, they might set the ground work for it. Also do you think that they might go the way of Infinity and work on the I go, You go system?

No.
That would be a complete rewrite of the FoW rules and V3 just isn't that. Its a consolidation of what exists and some reworking of stuff that BF thinks that doesn't work that well currently (airplanes, for instance).
If you wan't an historical system that works on pretty much the same mechanic as Infinity, then I urge you to look up Force on Force by Ambush Alley / Osprey. It is a brilliant rules system that I'm guessing is only behind FoW on popularity in the historical community right now and they are talking about releasing a WWII supplement sometime this year.

Since I hadn't seen it show up as actually confirmed yet, here you go:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_WRPM9pY3dA
Didn't watch the video? BF will do the same thing they did with v1, in other words, show up to your FLGS with a copy of your v2 hardback, they'll slap a sticker on it and then hand you a free v3 mini-rulebook. Don't have a FLGS? BF says that they'll work with you to get owners of hardback v2 rules a free copy of the v3 rulebook. They have already stated that all army lists will remain legal and that they're not going to invalidate any units.

The V2 to V3 will not be a trade-in like you'd do with a used car. You just get a sticker in your hardback V2 and get to keep it along with your new mini V3 rulebook. At least that is my understanding of it. Battlefront wouldn't want to bother with recycling all those hardbacks.
