No that portion of the rule is part of the section beginning: "On some models it will be actually impossible to literally move the gun and point it towards the target."

The rules on page 58 are all encompassing for both vertical and horizontal: "When firing a vehicle's weapons, point them at the target and then trace the line of sight from each weapon's mounting and along it's barrel, to see if the hot is blocked by terrain or models."

The exact Line that can be traced along a mounting is less than 1degree(since a line has no width); and that is more specific than a general 45 degree effective arc.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

The issue with the rules is that some weapons CAN pivot more, but the rules tell us that they have a defined arc. As far as I saw, GW defined the Arc for vertical shooting for all weapons to be 45 degrees. No exception was made. I guess I need to reread the section, BUT there is a clear distinction between horizontal and vertical arcs to be sure, that does go beyond 'what the vehicle can point at'

To my recollection the "normal arc" rules aren't limited to only horizontal traverse. The rules Kel is talking about say that if you can point the gun at the target, that's your fire arc, and don't draw a distinction between up and down vs. side to side.

Only the rules for fixed weapons which can't traverse specify a distinction for up and down vs. side to side.
