The Harbinger of Conquest Painted.
The vehicle known as the "Harbinger of Conquest" became famous during a campaign to exterminate a Ork Waagh attacking the planet of Dranteir 3 which was in close proximity to a newly forming Forgeworld and was made into the location where the Waagh would be halted. The 91st along with several other regiments were tasked with holding the opening to a canyon that lead into the main hive city and imperial base on the planet. The battle nearly went south for the Guard until the 91st's commander called in the wrath of the Harbinger, a 100 megaton nuclear warhead from a single shell of the Harbinger wiped out the entire Green Skin Offensive in a single stroke. The battles continued until the Mag'ar Rok was order destroyed and while other regiments hurried to gain the glory of the Roks destuction, the 91st fired upon the Rok with a single shell and vaporized it out of existance along with every xeno in and around it.
The Harbinger of Conquest continues to serve with the 91st but is only called upon in the greatest of need.... When absolutly, and unequivocally, everything.... has to die....
rules for the mega cannon still being tweaked...

I "rescued" a Rhino and started a Grav Leman Russ. both WIP
The Rhino was part of my freinds army and i can't remember where he got it, but he had this idea to strap a M4 sherman turret to the top and call it a Leman Russ Demolisher along with drilling a hole in the front hull and gluing a Heavy Weapons team Lascannon in the hole for the hull mounted weapon. I eventually put 2 plasticard tubes on the end of the barrel to give it a fat gun barrel like that of a Demolisher cannon for him. Eventually he attempted to strip the paint off all his tanks (using Pine Sol) and it worked on all of them (they turned stark white)....... all of them but this one Rhino/Demolisher franken tank. It turned out all sticky and smelled heavily of Pine Sol and the paint didn't really come off. I got the tank from him for $5 (along with a Earth Shaker cannon and other bits for another 5). It was in terrible shape. i spent a good half an hour with a hobby knife and loads of other tools trying to remove the "snow" on the bottom on the tank that had congeeled into a white and orange sludge on the tracks and bottom hull, and shaving off the bits of paint with a knife to a "reasonable" state. With extensive amount of gluing, cutting plasticard, applying Green stuff and bits, etc I turned it from a POS proxy to something that looks a heck of alot more like a Demolisher tank. IT had the same M4 Sherman Turret with the fat barreled demolisher cannon, but the Lascannon is in a forward casemate now with additional armor on the front and sides with heavy flamer sponsons attached as well.
I don't have a before picture but it wasn't plesent.
Also i've started a Grav Leman Russ, that will likly turn into an exterminator (duel Auto Cannons). it will sit on a spare Valk base proped up on the remnants of the Valk stand (the clear part) sitting about a centimeter or two above the base, no skimmer or nothing rules applied, its more or less a hovering Leman Russ that floats along slowly nearly unable to carry the weight of the armor.

The Rhino-Russ Demolisher now only awaits painting and basing. Its name is still being decided. (feel free to make suggestions)
The Grav Russ is coming along. It now only needs some heavy bolter sponsons akin to a predator (suspended machine guns as opposed to traditional sponsons), and the base needs to be applied to give it the hovering quality, (either that or i go and find a small clear base like other hover tanks)
the design of the Grav system is similar to a Custodes experimental Grav Rhino i saw a picture of on the forums here on Dakka, with some elements of my own thrown in.
It has parts of a Stormraven jet engine and more bits making up the grav system.
The Grav Russ is the Leman Russ Exterminator Varient with twin linked Auto cannons, and will have heavy bolter sponsons. the idea being the heavy recoil of anything larger then the auto cannons would shove the Grav Russ around as it hovered.

Grav Russ nearing completion. just needs paint and base.
Rhino-Russ is Based and partially painted.
Grav Russ is the Exterminator Varient with twin Auto Cannons with a Lascannon in the hull and heavy bolter sponsons.
not sure whats next. Probly an ork Trukk beaten into a Manticore with 4 large tubes on its rear for the Launcher. with the crew compartment made "clean" and square with a heavy bolter.

The Rhino-Russ (Now named Burning Vengence)
and the Grav Exterminator are complete.
The Grav Exterminator sits on a base form a valkarie thats been chopped up and modified. ill probly end up giving it a proper clear hover tank base at some point but for now it has this one.
Steel Fury, Grav Exterminator: A Long lost prototype dating back to before the Heresey. "Steel Fury" has only recently been recovered from the vault on Schrott. its complex Anti Grav system developed eons ago allows it to float over the battlefield with a audible humming sound, with the roar of its Thusters accompanying it along side the rapid fire of its duel auto cannons and other armaments. The Grav system can only use a Autocannon set up as the recoil of a large weapon system would push the vehicale backwards due to it being suspended over the ground (meaning there is no traction).
When first displayed to the 91st command, concerns were the tank could not climb hills due to its grav system, but its powerful thrusters allow it to keep pace to any other Leman Russ design using the normal Tracks, even over hilly or rough terrain.
It is enroute to its first deployment
Rhino-Russ Demolisher: The Rhino turned Leman Russ Demolisher was captured during a battle against renegade Vostroyians in the Terraxus Campaign. initially it was in extreamly poor shape. Its turret could not turn and the front las cannon was simply wedged into a hole cut into the hull. the 91st riped the Rhino apart and promptly rebuilt the tank. The result was a Leman Russ Demolisher in every way beyond the chassis it used (the Rhino). frontal armor plates were added to deflect the heaviest fire and a equally thick turret (that could actulyl spin) mounting a Demolisher Cannon and more modifications turned a Traitors desprate attempt at making a Siege Tank into a full fledged war machine with the name of "Burning Vengence" that fights for the Emporer.
Burning Vengence now fights against the traitors it was captured from, obbliderating them with the greatest of ease with each powerful Demolisher Shell.
Edit: added fluff for the Tanks

im not sure what to do next. i want a Manticore but im not sure what to do.
A. Salvage: take a unit from another army (or buy a second hand unit from someone) and refurbish it into a useable machine?
ex: take a ork Truck and refurbish it with more angular and bulky crew compartment (like if it was built by the Imperium) and fit 4 large tubes on the rear for a missile rack
or
B. Prototype: Like the others before it, it would be a long lost Mechanicus Prototype. it could launch its projectiles out of some prototype system/missile launcher or have the stormeagle rockets on top of an unorthodox chassis. like some type of plasma launcher or even a take on the Proton collider weapons of Red Alert thats shells devide up into smaller energy bomblets (manticores multi warhead attack). and can't reload as the charge required is akin to a giant bullet/battery thats loaded into the rear of the weapon.
for either design there are plenty of variations.
Or even salvage a Dreadknight to carry a large BattleCannon Rifle, enclose the crew compartment and give it shoulder mounted sponsons with a arm mounted lascannon. its the least likly to construct as i would need to purchase a full dreadknight.

Well... Prototypes it is.
Current concept is a dirrivitive of the Pacifier Artillary from Red alert 3 Uprising. it hovers along on 4 thrusters when not deployed and has a pair of gatling guns that mow through infantry.
when deployed it unfolds a giant pair of "Grand Cannons" which fire extreamly powerful Collider bomblets (imagine nuclear energy compressed into orbs that fire over extreame range and beat the enemy into submission)
My idea is part from what i can procure and what i could build as well as imagination
Disasemble a Rhino (or a Chimera if i could get one) and give it hover abilitys and on the rear a huge quad pair of large energy cannons. on the rear of the cannons could be large battery like objects (the charges to fire the guns which would be like the 4 shot limit of a Manticore)
i would love to draw the plans for one but im terrible at drawing lol.
edit: when i start getting it together ill post the results.
edit mk 2: Different idea. went down memory lane and remembered a weapon from an old PS1 favorite known as Future cop LAPD, there is a high ballistic weapon known as the "Plasma Flare" that you can use. when powered up the Plasma Flare instead of 1 solid energy projectile, its seperates into multiple powerful shells. That could be the system i could base the Prototype Manticore off of. a "Plasma Flare Launcher" that has 4 charges (large cumbersome batterys that fuel the launcher, limiting shots to 4) it would need only a single barrel or discharge array.
The weapons 40k wise would fire just like a Manticore only instead of a rocket a large ball of plasma energy would fire at a high ballistic arc to extreame ranges. it would be highly charged (more so then normal plasma cannons) allowing for the power of a manticore impact to be achived. the shells would be naturally unstable due to their high energy state and would often fragment in flight (like the cluster bomb effect of a Storm Eagle rocket) resulting in multiple high energy plasma impacts. It would be fired from a single device (a decent sized "gun") but have 4 charges somewhere (like on external power relays) or simply have the idea that generating such powerful plasma bursts depletes the onboard reactor/battery to such a point it can only fire 4 times before it can no longer fire.
Note this: my creations never will see a tourney of any kind. they only see battles at my local store in standard battles or Apoc and i explain completly what is what (i.e this tesla tank is an executioner and so on)

1. Im never 100% serious until the construction has finished and i've painted the machine. thats just an idea and im not 100% thats even what its going to end up as!
2. the 91st Schrott Experimental Regiment is a Admech backed Regiment that uses old long lost prototypes in their army, as well as due to exposure to the Ad Mech the 91st has very basic methods of construction allowing them to salvage weapons and vehicales. They are utterly loyal to the Imperium (even if their machines and methods drive some administration personel mad) and take great pride in the usage of their machines against the enemys of man.
The planet they are from "Schrott" was an Adeptus Mechanicus vault that held untold numbers of experimental weapons and prototype machines, most machines were created from before the heresy but were lost deep in the vaults records if not erased competly. But a massive battle was waged on Schrott where nearly every faction in the 40k universe attacked the planet for reasons of their own, all but the Necrons and Tyranids. The battles waged for nearly 500 years with men and material piling up on both sides leaving behind uncountable numbers of wrecked vehicales and weapons.
When the war finnaly ended in victory for the imperium the planet was utterly covered in the refuse of war with the massive amounts of war machines deployed by all sides now littering the entire planet in giant heaps, some measuring hundreds of meters tall, some smaller space craft were crashed on the planet as well, giant city sized wrecks pot mark the planet. Intermingled with the corpses of war machines were the very prototype weapons the vault on schrott protected, deployed in desperation at defending the planet only to be lost amoung the dead machines. The planet had become extreamly inhospitable due to the millions of tons of debris on its surface as if it wasn't already difficult enough to live there. Gamma storms (Lightning storms on an apocolyptic scale) will disintegrate a human instantly and chars the remains of the machines, gigantic dust storms can wrend flesh from bone and scar the metal clean and what little water is left is full of chemicals and heavy metals that could melt flesh. Any wildlife thats left is highly toxic unless prepared extensivly.
The inhabitants of Schrott years after the war had adapted to using the refuse of war around them to create everything they needed. from transportation, water purification, shelter and more, a road warrior/fallout 3 inspired style "wreck-tech". Allowing the troops to have at least a basic understanding of mechanics and construction (anythingn further is handled by the local Mechanicius on Schrott)
The paint scheme reflects the concept of the vehicales being incredibly old and war torn and simply recoverd and rebuilt without a lick of paint and sent against the enemy, the brighter colors like red or gold being the few bits of paint applied (not by me but by the troops in the story), other like bright blues or orange being the glowing energy such as the plasma or tesla weapons.
The name of Experimental comes from my tendency to incorperate weapons and vehicales that the standard IG regiment would never have. Such as the giant nuclear cannon known as the Harbinger of Conquest, or the Tesla Tank, Beam tank, or Sonic Cannon tank, but all will have the approprate rules attached to them to make them viable in play such as the Sonic Tank being a Demolisher in every way. (except for the Harbinger, those rules are being made up and balenced by me)
Xeno weapons are never touched (the paranoia still remains) and the 91st try to remove all remnants of xeno influence on any salvaged machines.
simple examples:
the Rhino-Russ is a Salvaged vehicale captured from traitor vostroyans and rebuilt (properly) by the 91st and now employed by them against the traitors
The Sonic Cannon Russ: the Ad Mech had a SUper tank called an Ordantus equipped with a "Sonic Disruptor" and the Sonic Cannon was an attempt to make it smaller. the weapons was abandoned but eventually recovered by the 91st and put to use.
Read the fluff for each post and it explains alot if not a good chunk of what i've said above.

The "Plasma Flare Manticore" is still getting worked on. used a cheap Half-track chassis then cut off the front end (the truck hood) to make it all tracked and covered up the hole it left with a Rhino door acting as the radiator and plasicard as front armor. Heavy flamer on the front as well.
The actuall weapon itself is coming along in a manner. its no where near done but will have plenty of wires and things covering it and such due to its nature.
The device itself is based on a weapon from Future Cop LAPD which your character ( the X-1 Alpha Assault Walker) can use. WHen fired it launches a ball of plasma in a high ballistic arc and the plasma ball comes crashing down with extreame force causing alot of damage. When Upgraded it launches a single plasma ball that then devides into many before impact and hit alot harder then normal blasts.
The system im making (fluff wise) works in a similar way. When fired it discharges a highly condensed ball of plasma who's unstability allows it to fragment into additional plasma spheres.
If it doesn't work out. Plan B is 4 large tubes on the rear like "Stalin's Organ" rocket trucks.

XE-57 Plasma Flare Launcher.
A ancient design (That probly came from Ryza), that involves a extreamly complicated Plasma emmitter system that projects high concentrated balls of plasma energy at extreame distances. The Plasma Spheres are unstable which often leads to then deviding into seprate energy spheres (all which are the same in power) that impact with extreame force. It was designed to replace the Manticore That has the problem of limited ammunition (4 missiles) caused by the difficultly (if not immpossibility) to reload the launcher in combat. Unfortunatly the Plasma flare launcher was found to be very difficult to build and suffered from the same limited ammunition problem as the manticore, the source being the large amount of energy required to fire the weapon. the onboard batterys could only hold enough charge for 4 shots and its small engine, while hooked up to a generator (or a larger generator like those in a IG base) cannot charge with speed without causing the batterys to become worthless.
Wires and conduits cover the device, and its carrier (a retrofitted tracked/armored truck) transfering energy to the weapon system.
Its longer thena manticore (if onyl due to the Device on its rear) but the actually HULL is a similar length to a chimera hull (give or take a fraction of a centimeter or 2).
still needs a few more details then the usual.

Shes not done (by far). will have more caution bands (or whatever they are called the black and yellow bands) and a few other things. Cables still need some more color (I need a new red...), not to mention painting the rest of the machine. Found a old Storm raven engine (missing its covering) maybe i can rig up a "Volksjager" jet fighter (WW2 German Prototype Fighter, only 1 kill is credited to the machine) with the engine and parts to make a Thunderbolt or Lightning, get a little air support to suppliment my Hydras and Venddettas. Other then that, i could construct one of the many designs i've made from the "Create you own war machines" thread ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/437035.page) like the Cryo Tank or Longbow Assault gun or something. anyways. what i have so far. things subject to change

And I personally like the painting, metallic colours make sense on a heavily mechanized regiment with ties to the admech.

Ty motyak. If you have ever seen the "Meet the Medic" from team fortress a similar line is uttered, but it inspired my sig and dictates the nature of my army. untested or salvaged weapons and soemtimes the men are not sure if what they have will work.
Im not sure what is next. Had a concept of a Dreadknight reworked to carry a large battle cannon "rifle" with a lascannon over it shoulder (for the hull mounted weapon) with the cockpit being enclosed. would have to rework its arms alot to compensate for the cockpit and rifle. (might even rig one of the blades the Dreadknight kits comes with to the rifle like a giant bayonet).
Another is like i said once is a Volksjager jet (as a Lightning, Apoc Flyer) centered around a single Stormraven engine i have.
A half track as well maybe, could scrounged from parts i have for another chimera.
amoung other ideas. If i got my hands on one of those new stormtalons i could do something with it lol

The Apoc battles ended abruptly with an Imperial Victory (my team). It ended with an all out slug match between a large IG force + Grey Knights vs My IG and an allied Grey Knights (i wanted GK/ Gk vs IG/ IG but the points and number of troops both me and the other IG guy could deploy would have swept the floor with the GK). I keep building Apoc grade units mostly for fun (and the hope i get to see my entire force spread out upon a massive table opposite another equally large force). It began with a IG vs IG/ GK in a special "Train assault" senario i made with a large toy train set that came out as a draw.
Things like the Harbinger of Conquest were ment to be an Apoc scenario where it would have some serious firepower able to wipe out entire chunks of an army (while defending a fortress) and th enemy would have a rule that would let them replace the rank and file troops (and armor aside from super heavys) lost to the super cannon. problem is that schedules and life got in the way of many of the potential participants (causing it to be canceled). Those at the local store who want to have an apoc battle always threaten to have one but then again. things can't get organized lol.
Hopefully ill get a match and several pictures of my regiment deployed in force. i have a picture of the entire army in my gallery but the recent additions have obviously made them obsolete.
As for the Next project..... see above concepts.

Small "quick build" if you will. built from plasticard, parts of an armored car kit, a used up paint pot, and other bitz and bobs, i built a Toxin Tractor to use as a Banewolf.
Its not terrible, but not great. just kinda cobbled together out of boredom. its the same legth of a Chimera hull and only a hair thinner. it just LOOKs smaller then a Chimera to the naked eye but side by side they are very close.
Was thinking the fluff could have it come from an Agriworld and was built out of need to make additional vehicales to deal with Orks who had attacked it, and a Chemical spray seems to kill orks and their spores (besides flame weapons). *shrug*.

Done. chopped up the roof section of a razorback for the vents. makes a good "bolted on haphazardly" style grill.
ill clean it up a bit later. its late
edit: i got half of an old old rhino but if i could get the other half i could build a half track or soemthing. tried doing it with a mono track + wheels but that didn't look good enough.
Otherwise i could build the fueselage of the fighter jet. but am missing the cockpit. but had the idea of salvaging a Stormtalon cockpit and usie the remaining parts for something else.
the wings of the VolksJager are the wings of the Storm Raven and the single dorsal engine is the propulsion. just like the Real Volksjager (which i cannot post a picture of the real thing as i can't find a picture that does not half a swastika painted on the tail, google it.)
Its arament will be a centerline autocannon and wing mounted lascannons with missiles in the wings. it will be a mean flying machine capable of sending anything the enemy flys back to the ground in peices!

I have to agree with the criticisms that they are vaguely orky and the paintjob is a bit slapdash. That having been said, these are some amazing models. Calling them conversions seems to be selling them short and calling them scratch builds seems to be a bit too far. Whatever the name is, keep up the great work.
