Well, yeah, the guys who do this end up worse off than their victims.
If caught, they serve time in jail, that can really feth you later down the road.
Even if they don't get caught, these are the type of people who leave home at 18 with no way of supporting themselves, getting stuck at a gak job and trailer park residency.

This is only a problem because most people don't have the will or knowledge to fight dirty. Give one of those punks a hyper-extended knee or a bitten-off lip and the rest will slink away with the fight drained right out of them.

The thing to remember in this story is not so much the combat tactics that could be used so much as these punks pick out people that can't fight back, such as 70 somethings, etc.
It's not so much how wide spread it is as much that it happens at all is what bugs me. I've always despised cowards like this.

And also many places count on cameras to get pics of the offenders so they can be caught afterward instead of hiring security people who might be able to stop it happening, or deter it.

Huh. I live in STL. I've never heard of anything like this happening. Joanie's Pizza is right down the road from me. I wonder which grocery store we was going to.

Would it be better if they were attacking people that could fight back?

Only tangentially, because some of them would at least be getting their asses kicked.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Kids these days!

Sounds slowed, in my opinion. What happened to just throwing knives at trees in the woods to have some fun with your buddies?

Also, word filter I've never noticed before. Cool.

Well, the kids HAVE always been corrupt, with each generation becoming more and more corrupt than the last.

Personally, I blame Socrates.

The thought of some old man, cripple, what have you being attacked en masse and left unconcious or dying by cowards who then go on to boast about what rough asses they are gets me to a whole degree of pissed that surpasses alot that angers me.

I lived in New Orleans a couple of years and was jumped by multiple people with knives that I kicked the everlovin' crap out of, and wrestled down and incapacitated people with guns that left me no choice but to fight them. None of those cases anger as much as the old man being beaten to death in an alley by these sub human cowards.

I suppose its a difference of perspective then, because to me attacking people that can fight back just seems foolish outside any mitigating factors.

This sounds like it should be an article on The Onion, mostly because it's hard to believe an actual journalist would spew such ridiculous nonsense*. And by hard to believe, I mean "unpleasant but expected", of course.

*By which I mean the "this is clearly an epidemic sweeping the nation, NO ONE IS SAFE!" garbage, based on a single incident of a random person being beaten by a group of random idiots.

Either didn't read or understand the article, did we? It talked of multiple instances, at least one of which resulted in the death of a 72 year old man.

It was also extremely vague... "multiple" is nothing unless quantified, especially on a national level.

Yeah, cause prison is totally worse than death.

They cited that St. Louis had 10 such attacks over the past 15 months, as well as naming multiple attacks in other cities.

I said "later down the road" after prison, it becomes difficult for people to reenter society as successful human beings (save the few that actually have a change of heart). I wouldn't be fond of a prison stay, myself, however deserved it may be.

Apparently, it's a game for a group of kids to beat a random person up.

Times like these I remember what is good in life.

Its been going on for decades, though before they would just beat up the homeless. The only thing is cell phone cams and the internet enables groups of these knuckleheads to communicate resulting in an escalation of attacks and some groups changing their victims from the homeless to random people.

Things like this make me think modern China has the right idea, use scum like them as forced labor in a coal mine for a few decades.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.
