Decided on the basic layout of the ruined buildings. Still need to add bases, interior detailing and do gapfilling and such of course.

Here's the smallest building, the Manufactorum. I left the first floor entirely closed to block line of sight.

And the upper floors.

The Sanctum Imperialis, which is somewhat bigger and more open.

A balcony added to the side, used to address the unwashed masses.

And more than enough room to place your troops.

And the pièce de résistance, a ruined church. Can't have a 40k gaming table without at least some pompous building of religion, now can we? Combined out of 2.5 Basilica Administratum buildings and a Shrine of the Aquila, it's quite big. I based it on a church shown on the GW site back when Planetstrike was introduced. Still undecided if I'm going to create a staircase for the door of the Shrine of the Aquila, or just create a small balcony.

Already added some interior detailing. The dead Blood Angels Terminator from Space Hulk is getting a place of honour.

It easily measures up with the Fortress of Redemption in size.

Interesting use of the shrine. Where are the other parts of it going to be use for or was that all of the kit you had?

I really love this table idea and the inset piece idea... I think i would like to make something like this for myself and would love it if you could post some more pictures of the table without the insets so that I can do some planning and engineering of my own

One of the major questions I'm curious about is how deep the inset is...

Thanks!

No, I have the entire kit. It comes with the eagle panel, which you can see on the front, 2 intact panels, which form the sides of the tower. The two ruined panels aren't shown in the pictures yet, as I need to dremel them down to form the back of the tower, while still allowing access inside the tower to place your miniatures. The platforms are used inside the tower, just cut to a different configuration, and the stairs are used as the raised platform for the Space Hulk Terminator on his throne.

Well, the depth of the inset is easy, it's approximately 1 cm; the height of the Realm of Battle plates. I'm currently away on a business trip, but I can take some more pictures of the table when I get back next Wednesday. Any specific parts you want pictures of?

I want to see the underside.

Both the table and your terrain is absolutely stunning.

And back! Took a couple of pictures of the table. Don't mind the mess.

The table with the Realm of Battle plates removed, so you can see the support frame.

The two supports in the width of the table carry most of the weight, and have been assembled in a T for extra strength and to prevent warping/sagging of the wood under the weigth of the Realm of Battle plates.

The side of the table. The╒╕shaped struts are made with two legs and a support, which are again for added strength and to prevent warping/sagging.

The supports in the length of the table are attached to the sides with bed hooks. These are to prevent warping/sagging in the length of the table. The small blocks attached to the bottom of the table top in this and the previous 2 pictures are used to guide the 4 segments of the table top into place on the support frame when assembling it.

And a close up of a corner. Here you can see that each of the 4 table top segments is made out of two pieces glued together. The lower piece is wider to create the inside lip for the board to rest on.

If you need any other pictures or information, don't hesitate to ask.

Wanted to paint something in between, so a quick intermezzo:

Did the broken Aquila from the Honoured Imperium set. Took me about 15 minutes of airbrushing and drybrushing.

Damn nice table you've got there. Having the tabletop around the playing area is a great idea. If I did a modular style table, I'd construct one like this in a heartbeat.

Thanks FutureTense!

While I was getting my area terrain on, I added this Citadel Wood:

As my board is pretty barren, I went with the petrified tree look. A lush forest would look out of place.

And of course, can't have a piece of 40k terrain without skulls!

It's a nice piece of kit; easy and quick to assemble and paint. I like the fact that the trees are removable, makes them very playable. I may just have to get a second set some time in the future. But I'm going to finish this current pile of terrain first.

Finished another piece over the weekend: the Blastscape. Sadly the low sun kind of drowns out the colours in the photos a little bit.

Nice bit of kit, even if it is a little less playable due to all the uneven surfaces and non-removable trees.

Been a while since the last update; been painting up some of my 'Nids and of course the season holidays took their toll on hobby time. But, continuing with the game table:

I got a few pieces of leftover 6mm trespa plates from a friend who works at a company where the sell the stuff. This stuff is rocksolid and doesn't warp at all, so while expensive if you would have to buy it, it's ideal stuff to use as a base.

Bevelled the edges with a dremel and glued some modelling sand to add texture for drybrushing it later.

And added some textured plasticard to the manifactorium floor. More details like some computer consoles and such will be added later, but for ease of painting it's empty for now.

Beautiful, and by "beautiful" I don't mean just "oh it looks like", but beautiful. As in, that Fortress of Redemption is so beautifully painted it actually looks like an ornate structure in a church.

Also, I love how the top of your gaming boards sit so flush with the table! Great idea to prevent the boards from bumping all over the place when you lean over the table.

If you could ever get your uncle to draw up some blueprints and measurements for this table that would be amazing. Everyone should be so lucky to have a battlefield table that looks this good
