Flayed ones from 3rd edition codex had initiative 4, the visage, 4+ wbb, 3+ armor, and 2 attacks base. They were gimmicky, but a fun way to beef up my phase out number at the same cost as a warrior.

The new flayed ones lost a point of armor, denying them a save from AP 4 guns, but 4+ on its own is very middling. New RP is better, but you won't be putting an orb in that unit to improve it.

The biggest issue with this unit is that it will more often get assaulted then do the assaulting.

I take your point that it's unfair to compare this dedicated assault unit to another...

That said, if you lose 3 flayed ones before they get to hit, you're only getting 21 attacks back, 1 or 2 dead MEQ

Edit: once you lose the assault and run, you'll get swept.

Visage hardly ever worked with things having high leadership and only worked for 1 round.

4+WBB is not better than current RP

The selling point really was the 3+ save and the higher initaitive which i admit i forgot about. The new ones gained an attack and as someone else said footsloggin 10 models is a death sentence, so the increase in numbers cap is golden and given the fact that most AP4 weapons are for AT and that AP3 weapons which are more abundant would have shot at them anyway denying them the 3+ save, then it becomes all mostly a matter of walking them through cover.

In which case the saving through is not that important before reaching combat. During combat however hands down 3+ is much better but it doesnt mean 4+ doesnt work backed up by a 5+ RP

Overall they are improved IMO namely for the extra attack and increased numbers making them the necron version of 'Ard Boyz, which are good units in the Ork Codex.

We've had past disagreements but I have to say, to be fair, that I do like the list. it's not uber competitive, but it's different than the *uuuugh wraiths, scarabs uuuugh* stuff we've been having the past few weeks. Of course some things can be changed and are not optimal but this has, and is thoroughly discussed so I won't give my opinion about how the list should be changed, exept for this : if you wanna have 20 FO's, take Imotekh. That 6" scatter max rule will be invaluable I think in this list, and since your overlord doesnt have a warscythe anyway...sure you lose the orb but to hell with it, you get the initiative seize, the night fight, phaeron and the scatter rule for your FO's. Oh yeah, and the lightning that's more of a gimmick but could make miracles in that format. Especially since you lack AT.

It would also stick better to the FO that seems to be a theme since it's getting all the attention.

Also, the thing that comes with the Overlord in CCB box is a warscythe I think, not a hyperphase sword, judging from the looks of the warscythes and swords in the lychguard box. Also, selling a box with a CCB and an Overlord in it with the Overlord NOT having a warscythe would just be TOO stupid, even for GW. Either way, no one will EVER break your balls about you using that long thing as a warscythe, and if they do just stick it in their eyeball, should shut them up pretty nicely

Oh yeah and I have to say, a third troop choice...seems kinda necessary.

well if everyone is using that thing as a warscythe then halleluyah so will i

having the warscythe in the CCB is 10x better than that damned hyperphase sword...

i'm just obsessive compulsive about proxies at times...thus why i own so much stuff as you can see from my sig (and one of the reasons for our past disagreement)

I would also agree with you 100% that the stormlord would go very well here since he also combos well with the chronometron but i just down own the model as i mentioned in the previous thread i have none of the SCs and i just refuse to proxy unless GW wont be releasing a model in which case i'll just convert.
