I second the thanks that Bonde expressed. Some great responses here.

And @ kenshin620: Based on your inclusion of the spitty-face ork emoticon, I am assuming that you are referring to wish-listing-pipe-dream type rumor and speculation...or is someone going to make my day and tell me that there actually have been some semi-grounded rumors about plastic STs?

I would think in the 1,500 meta they don't really have a place in your list, but in 2,000 and higher when you have to start diversifying your list and FOC they have a more prominent role in your army.

I use 2 units in a 1500 point army.

I would add the 3rd unit at 1850.

Trygons are an assault unit with Fleet; they can't assault the turn they DS. I would say ST are a much better candidate for DSing than a Trygon.

Flavius really nailed this question with his answers, though.
The failure of trygons tends to be the making or breaking of 'nids for this reason. Have you tried killing a tygon? Or indeed tried to open any mech with tyranids?

DoA means you can nearly always try to land within melta distance, it is not likely that you scatter that far. Even with the reroll the stormtroopers scatter far when they miss, which they can. Maybe 54% would be good enough if they can earlier.

So Mfletch, your argument is that because stormtroopers aren't as good at deepstriking as Blood Angels, they're no good at deepstriking?

Nobody is as good at deepstriking as BA. But before the BA codex came out, we didn't think that was a problem. In fact, we thought stormtroopers with their reroll and access to +1 on reserves rolls (astropath) were better-than-average at deepstriking.

Also, don't forget that the range of a meltagun is 12". When you're shooting at back or side armor--which is a major advantage of deepstriking--the extra d6 usually doesn't matter.
