On a side note, I was not ready for the local Gray Knight Meta. Out of 31 players there was something like 16 GK Armies...thats about 66% of the local people running GKs.
a Rough count of other amies I saw on the fly:
2 Blood Angel (from SD)
1 Black Templar (from SD)
1 Space Wolf (from SD)
1 Dark Angel (Deathwing)
2 Codex SM (1 from SD)
1 Ork
1 Tau
3 Dark Eldar
4 IG (2 from SD)

No Crons (!!!???) and no Eldar.

I believe there were at least 3 marine players. Myself, Paul the other Imperial Fist player and someone running a Pedro Drop List. Also I remember seeing two different Space Wolf and Blood Angel Armies

I was blown away by the number of Grey Knight players there today. I did not end up playing any of them, likely due to doing rather terribly.

One SW player held back his (not painted) necrons, thinking the cameras were gonna be there, so brought fully painted SW instead.

And gods yes, several, too many, have partaken of the GK koolaide.

Pulled off a Major win against Chaos Marines KP mission Pitched Battle, A Minor win against Palladin GKs 3 Objectives with the 4th ed diag deployment, and a Major loss to Purifier GKs 5 Objectives (1 worth 2 points...the 1 in his deployment zone naturally) Spearhead deployment.

If I didn't have a 9 (yes NINE) hour orientation to law school today, I would have busted out some Eldar =(. I hope everyone had fun and I hope to go next time, Love what they've done with the new place!

Well, thanks to everyone for coming, and hopefully there won't be so many weddings/long-lost cousins to meet for the first time/endless orientations to attend in February when we do it all again! It was a great day, one of the smoothest events we've had. The final tally for the day was 32 players. Grey Knights won Overall, Sgtbarker's amazing Imperial Fist army took the painting prize, and Brothererekose took the Sportsmanship award (prophetically!)!

The army breakdown was:

Space Marines x4
Chaos Marines x2
Grey Knights x5
Imperial Guard x5
Tau x1
Space Wolves x3
Orks x1
Blood Angels x2
Dark Eldar x2
Dark Angels (Deathwing) x2
Tyranids x1
Black Templars x1
Eldar x1

So, no, there weren't 16 GK players .

*picks up pieces of the fallen sky and replaces them

We had everyone except Sisters, Necrons, and Daemons on the table yesterday, there were just as many IG as GK, and the top two tables were Templars vs. Tyranids and Deathwing vs. GK. I'm pretty happy with that.

To for a second, I think GK are strong, and there are some elements to them that seem like a bit of a 'miss' to me, in a game balance sense, but they have some important liabilities and can definitely be beaten. And beyond all that, a skilled player who knows his list (granted, you need more reps with some of the older books, but that's just how it is) and plays smart will do just fine and has as good a shot as anyone. End

The pictures of the day are up now on Game Empire's facebook, which you can see here:

Thanks again to everyone for coming, congratulations to all the winners, and hopefully well see everyone again on the second Saturday in February!

Thanks for the breakdown, but every time I turned around it looked like i was seeing another GK army. Maybe thats what I get for winning the first 2 games.
Have to agree that GKs have some exploitable weakness' but they also have some rediculous strengths (like Fortitude and the ability to stack Hammerhand from the squad and an IC).
Is their a final standings list available anywhere?
Regardless, looking forward to the next major event put on at GE-P. The new digs are incredible, a HUGE playing area, and very nicely laid out.

Hey Kelly, thanks for that third game. I don't know about the rest of those heathens, but I've been playing gk since the book came out. They are partially what got me back in to warhammer. I always wanted to play GK before but the models were too hard to find. With that being said, I hope the rumours of 6th are true. If so, I will definitely be bringing my Eldar back to the table.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I was also pretty surprised that there were no necrons. There are a couple pretty strong necron builds out in the world. Maybe the threat of camera kept people's grey armies off the table?

Hey Dok. That was an epic matchup. I'm sorry my dice kept failing key rolls but you had a good strategy of pressing the attack to kill my blob-squad holding my objective. I think I played it too timid with my melta-vets...hiding behind that big rock. I should have just moved towards your Dreads as fast as possible, let you kill the Chimeras, but then the melta-guys would then be in range to kill them. Not killing that Dreadknight on the 1st volley of shooting pretty well collapsed that flank for me.
Looking forward to playing you again at the BSB and/or BAO.

It is true, in general if the GK players are competent, that if you're winning games and near the top tables you'll probably run into more GK at the moment. Our game was a fantastic nail biter the whole way through Kelly and if my list were at all similar to Doks it may have served you better as a tester. You dealt with Paladins in our game one of the few ways that reliably work and persevered through a disastrous first 2 turns and got the win, truly great play on your part. I hope to see you again before the BAO but if not I look forward to a rematch there!

Thanks for the great event Dis, apologies for bugging out 10 minutes early but fatherly duties were calling my name

Check Capture and Control tomorrow (Monday) afternoon for a break down of my day and how I think things went for my Coteaz/Paladin list. I went 2-1 with 2 Major wins and a Minor loss to Kelly so there will be more to it than just "Grey Knights are awesomely OP, they make me feel like an amazingly talented player ZOMG!!"

Casey, you deserve best Sportsman thoroughly, never had a bad game with you in my life. Paul, when you show up with your Imperial Fists there are very few who could take best painted over you. I was disappointed in the lack of Necrons, simply because I really want to play against them before the BAO.

Hey Overwatch. Yeah, I thought I was toast when you killed the Manticore AND the Colossus AND the Banewolf too, without any of them firing a shot.
Nothing wrong with where you summoned the Pallies into. Even after getting hit with 2 Melta Vet Squads and a Plasma-Vet double-tap squad I wasn't expecting you to fail that Ld check.
Amazing how 1 dice roll can turn a game from a rout to a slug match.
Hope to see you again at the BSB or BAO.
