Hello Dakka!

Happy new year! Now that the tumult and calamity of the holiday season is dying down, I finally have moments to actually post events in a timely manner, and this one should be a doozy! We are kicking off the new year's tournaments in style, we'll even be having actual trophies!

And... we have a crew coming in to film for our upcoming TV show during the event, so bring your best!!

We'll be doing another round of the same 'Ard Boyz-style, battle points-only, but I'll be breaking up the prize pool differently, so it's not strictly winner takes all (though the winner will still take most, as they should!)

1850 points again this time.

Sportsmanship will be scored separately for purposes of the Sportsmanship award. I'm going to have a simple one-warning system for questionable behavior. If a played has a legitimate complaint levied against them for unsportsmanlike play, they'll be notated as such, and any subsequent legitimate complaints will result in the player in question being asked to leave the event.

Scenarios will again be "from the book" with some minor special rules here and there to spice things up. We will be using an 'Ard Boyz style Massacre-Major-Minor-Draw scoring setup. Don't worry though.. there won't be anything silly like Victory Points! Tiebreakers will be scenario bonus points first, followed by strength of schedule, followed by Kill Points earned during the event.

Since we are taking all the gloves off on this one, I do have some basic requirements for armies. Armies must be comprised of GW models, must be comprised of a majority of models from the relevant codex, and fully assembled with all primary wargear represented on the model. WYSIWYG is the rule. I will make exceptions for conversion and 'counts-as' work if notified in advance, so I can take a look at the models in question and decide whether to allow them or not. If you're not sure about something, please let me know beforehand. You can contact me at the store, information below.

I will be keeping strict watch of the round times during the event, and I will be walking around the tables during games to help keep people on track. Games that do not go for a minimum of four full turns will not be scored and count as a loss for both players.

The top place goes to the best Battle Points, who will take home the championship trophy and the lion's share of the prize support. The player with the highest Sportsmanship total takes home the sportsmanship prize, and the player with the best painting score takes home the painting prize.

For the tournament there is a $10 entry (or $20 purchase) to play. The doors will be open early for players to come in and get set up. As usual, I want to kick this one off as close to 10:00am as possible so we don't go too long.

The schedule will stick as closely as possible to the following:

8:30ish - 9:30 - Show up early, have donuts with Travis (B&C donuts on Alta Dena and Foothill is particularly good for those of you in a generous mood! ), talk shop, complain about the new Necrons seizing on a 4+/the newest FAQ nonsense/6th ed rumors
9:30am - 10:00 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:00am - 12:15pm - Round 1
12:15 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:45 - Round 2
4:00 - 6:15 - Round 3
6:30 - Winners announced

It all goes down at Game Empire Pasadena:

1795 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena, CA. 91106

Make sure you note the new address!

Please let me know here or on the tournament thread on the Game Empire forums if you're planning on attending so I can get a rough idea what to expect. You can RSVP on Game Empire's facebook as well. If you RSVP on facebook, I'll give you a free candy and soda!

If you have any comments or questions, let me know here or give a call to the store, and hopefully I'll see you there!

I'll be there. Not sure if it will be SW or GK yet though. You can rest assured though that it will be power/terminator armor.

I assume forgeworld models count for the all GW model requirement correct?

I assume fully painted is not a requirement? I should be fine but my buddy might be in trouble in that department.

SUPERMEGAUPDATE!

Unfortunately, the vagaries of Hollywood have struck again and the director for our show is stuck shooting in some backwoods of the middle of the country and it looks like we will not have the film crew in to shoot on Saturday.

Which, while painfully lame, just means that you don't have to worry about wearing something nice or doing your hair, you can just focus on smashing your opponents!

Fully painted is not a requirement, so no worries there.

Boooooo Hollywood! Hooray poor Hygiene! No, that can't be right... I did something wrong there, I am sure of it. It's cool, it just means we can discuss the leaked 6th ed supposed rule book free of cameras and boom mics.

Yeah... the director's shoot kept getting pushed back, and he's not going to be on a plane until late Friday at the earliest, so it's just safer to say that the shoot is off.

Such is life. Regardless, we will have a packed house anyway. And maybe I'll sneak in some of the alleged 6th edition shenanigans, just to make everyone's head spin!

Yeah, this is too often a theme that gets brought up, OW.

Maybe if there were cameras, and we could get some soap/deodorant sponsorship? Like NASCAR?

I can see it now. "This episode brought to you by Old Spice" or some of us wandering around with Crest t-shirts or hats.

Actually, I picture Skrewpa's orange Necrons nabbing a Tide or Sunkist sponsorship. Those Monolith-traffic cones would look good with a "Tide" logo as a bull's eye.

Or he could paint the Green Glowing swirly doors of the monolith like the tide logo. That would be pretty funny actually... a Nurgle army could be led by a DP sculpted to look like Mike Rowe and have Discovery Channel logos instead of Nurgle Icons.

Wow, we've gone waaaay OT here.

Who knew that *that* statement would've been prophetic?

To all the San Diego GE guys that made the drive, and Ken too for driving so far south, Thanks for coming!

Cool armies. Cool guys to kibbtiz with.

spmusubi: Fun to get my teeth kicked in. Again.

At some point, Grimjob, we'll tangle. Maybe the BroadSideBash?

Thanks to Will for pitching in.

To Dis: Great event, as always. Gonna post the big "Yearbook" pic someplace?

Thanks to the GE staff for running a fun event. I had 3 great matches with my new IG Army (this was my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th games with this Army) and my opponents were all fun and top-notch guys.
Pulled off a Major win against Chaos Marines KP mission Pitched Battle, A Minor win against Palladin GKs 3 Objectives with the 4th ed diag deployment, and a Major loss to Purifier GKs 5 Objectives (1 worth 2 points...the 1 in his deployment zone naturally) Spearhead deployment.

On a side note, I was not ready for the local Gray Knight Meta. Out of 31 players there was something like 16 GK Armies...thats about 66% of the local people running GKs.
a Rough count of other amies I saw on the fly:
1 Blood Angel (from SD)
1 Black Templar (from SD)
1 Space Wolf (from SD)
1 Dark Angel (Deathwing)
2 Codex SM (1 from SD)
1 Ork
1 Tau
3 Dark Eldar
4 IG (2 from SD)

No Crons (!!!???) and no Eldar.
