I love the idea of using the 4e Space Marine 'dex and Fear of the Darknessing him off the table. Beats him at his own game

I've had this before. granted it was with my friends (and alcohol was involved) so I can't get mad. Sure I get a little disheartened when stuff goes wrong cause I just don't take losing well but I just sit back and think about why I am mad. Cause my little soldiers are being killed? Bah, reality check.
Mistakes are made but tipping odds is just dumb. You'll find though, atleast if your like me, karma has a way of rearing its ugly head. I find out I was missing something or playing something wrong I feel like a basterd and it bites me in the butt, usually broken models . Pure accident though as I am known to place them in places heavy with traffic.
But I suggest just going with it until it gets to the point of no return. Ive found that players like that, or how I see it, feel even worse though when they lose. "I had the upper hand in everyway, yet I still lost." You know the look of pure disbelief. This pertains to thing outsiide of warhammer as well. Such as Airsoft, yes I'm talking to you Jackson if you happen to be a lurker.

I'll add to the don't play the TFG guy votes.
Also, if he says 4th ed rules and short edge deployment, stare at him in disbelief. Keep staring until he asks you why. Then tell him its 5th ed and long edge deployment, because those are the rules. If he argues start packing up. Once you finish packing look him straight in the eye, tell him you won't waste your time on him and his cheating and that you have much better things to do with your time., and then leave.

Just to answer a previous question, he forced 4th edition because at the time he was the one with the rulebook(s) whereas I just now got a copy. And I guess he just preferred 4th edition to 5th.
The good news, I had a nice long talk with him, pointing out all the key points ive been given from you all. I also used this little quote, "Even new players, new TAU players (His army) are using the long table edge deployment. If you have to use the short table edge, you are worse than a new player, and I'm not going to waste my time learning from someone worse at the game than myself." (Not exact quote obviously.)
He packed his stuff and left for the day shortly after. He planned to come back tommorow, but I think getting told off by the newest player was too big a strike to his ego. That, and I've wrestled the guy before and he knew better than to throw a punch at me >_>.

One of the first games I played was with a guy who told me he was going to win from the get go and he did. Later I found out that he did becuase he was playing long range shooty SM and I was playing melee nids (one edition ago, I wouldn't touch the current codex for personal reasons.) We did the table edges with deployment on the short edge instead of the long like you did and needless to say that was why I lost. Since then I have learned to read rules more carefully. They are there for a reason.
I do play with another guy who doesn't read the rules and continually asks for a 2+ save in situations and argues that things can't be done that can be easily done. We deal with him by bludgening him to death with page numbers and if it's somthing we can't find we just call a group vote.

Not to nit pick here, but that sounds like you were being a douchebag too for insisting that an unpainted but assembled model wasn't valid for play.

I Concur.
Not allowing a assembled but unpainted model is bad form IMHO.
