I've never seen a measuring tape nor ruler marked in only one form.

US here, I agree, all my measuring tapes are in both cm and inches.

I'd still prefer to keep inches, but that's just cuz I'm biased.

pulled out my Stanley tape measure. Pretty well known company.

Only inches

I would bet that most tape measures marketed for US construction purposes would be the same. If im a carpenter, I would want BOTH sides of my tape to give me the relevant measurements.

This might seems bit radical, but why don't you have measuring tapes with metric going down one side and imperial on the other? Our rulers are the same, so you can measure in either.

Ork players have to measure in knuckles...

But wait, I thought the UK was metric?
Didn't the USA invent the inch system?*

Yeah I'm kinda shocked that GW isnt going by Skulls. Everything else has skulls. You know how in the US anything superlative has to be translated "for the masses" like.. this stadium is X cubic yards, OR would fill X number of Olympic size swimmingpools!" or the more common one.. how many football fields long is that?

Gw should have the Skull be the standard unit of measurement for everything. Rhinos would weigh 3400 Kiloskulls, and measure 200 Skulls long!

Of course the games would also be in skulls. So the tape measure would be in centiskulls. So for example, a unit on foot could move 110 centiskulls in the movement phase, etc.. I dont know how they missed this greatmarketing opportunity.

All joking aside, here in Canada, where we have been "metric" for 30 something years, people still us feet and inches for certain things, and pounds. like, I don;t go and say, Geez, I'm 12 kilos overweight. Its pounds. Or, man that basketball player is 280 cms tall! I recall Epic and BFG using metric and it just felt weird to not use inches on a GW game.

I would wager that in Japan, there might be some stupid bylaw in using non-metric units in advertising or somesuch, and so are just renaming it to avoid some stupid law.

I remember GW doing something similar with glues and sprays when the super nanny state Cdn Gov't decreed that anythign that didnt have the proper stickers on it couldnt be sold here. So GW simply sell the glues in a cylinder that has the stickers on it, and there is an extra wrap-around ON TOP OF the GW wrap around on the sprays. I bet this is something similar.

All of my tape measures are in inches only. You have to specificallly look for one with cms on it as well.

A lot of historicals games use 'base widths' to measure distances (usually in games where, for instance, all units are on bases 25mm deep). GW could simply say that one 'base width' is 25mm/1 inch and then change to 'move infantry models 6 base widths'

That's because an easy conversion between scales of 6mm/15mm/25mm figures is to use cm or inches as your base measurement.

What surprises me is that in Japan I don't think it is possible to buy tape measures with inches and cm. I don't recall seeing them in the shops. They only had cm.

Perhaps the GW Japan will sell an MV tape and everyone will need to buy one.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

They're not that uncommon. Here in Oz, you'll find at least as many tapes with only Metric measurements as you will with both.

I find this a bit hard to believe. I've honestly never encountered a measuring tape that did not have both inches and centre metres.

That's because you're not in the U.S. . I'm not proud of it, but I don't think I've ever encountered one with inches and centimeters...

Rulers, yes. But not measuring tape... and I am around them all the time at my job (and, of course, with my hobby )

Edit: I didn't see Jeep's comment above, but I find that odd. It's definitely not been my experience. Again, not something I'm proud of, but AFAIK it's the norm here to have measuring tape with only inches, not both.

But we're probably a bit off-topic by now
