Despite its name, the Stormraven does not have the Gunship special rule.
Yes it does, in the Codex Update's document that was packaged with the 6th ed leak. Stormravens have Supersonic and Gunship, as do Valkyries and Vendettas.

Fetterkey wrote:The fact that the Necron codex was written with 6th edition in mind does not mean the rules are legit; the rules writer(s) presumably know this too, and could have incorporated elements like that into the rules leak on purpose to make it seem more authentic, having already seen the Necron codex. On the other hand, I think someone analyzed the file and found it was dated prior to the Necron codex coming out; that said, I believe computer timestamps are relatively easy to fake.

Seriously, who would go through THAT much effort to make a complete game that's 100% compatible with current codices using the writing style GW tends to use in their books with similar terminology and making sure to reference items in a codex that we know are clearly designed for 6th edition? It's a stupid amount of work and as you said yourself, the document is dated before the Necron Codex was released, and is consistent with the 5th edition leak we got back before that release, and is consistent with the rumors we got several months ago about 6th edition.

It's a huge change, but that doesn't surprise me. 3rd edition was a massive difference from 2nd edition, and 4th edition was full of MUCH sillier rules than we are seeing in this leak. 5th edition was reminiscent of 3rd edition, and this document is reminiscent of an amalgamation of 2nd and 5th editions with a bunch of new stuff mashed in. I will agree that it's possibly a fake. We cannot know that for sure until we get either another leak from a reliable, confirmed source that shows one way or another, or until the book itself is released. With that said, I honestly think the likelihood that it's real is far better than the likelihood that someone went through the massive effort to fake this document.

Are you sure? My copy does not include this rule for the Stormraven, merely for the Valkyrie and Vendetta-- compare:

Codex Updates, p. 5 wrote:Page 38 - Stormraven Gunship
A Stormraven has the Supersonic special rule, as described in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.

Codex Updates, p. 22 wrote:Page 56 - Valkyrie/Vendetta
The Valkyrie and the Vendetta have the Supersonic and Gunship special rules, as described in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.

Oh, I concur. I'm just pointing out that, in the event that someone did decide to fake the rulebook, they would include details like this to make the fake seem more believable.

You.......are correct. It doesn't have the Gunship rule listed in its special rules. I misread that on the assumption it would be there since the name is Stormraven GUNSHIP. That seems a little idiotic. For the points it would make sense for a Stormraven to have Gunship. It's possible that it was an accidental omission, and in the final printing it will actually have that rule.......I hope so or the Stormraven will remain in the "Not Worth The Cost" category.

Awesome Batrep guys! Now lets see a Grey knights batrep and include some gun ships and flyers so we can see how those rules work out.

Heh, Grey Knights got a rather sizeable boost on all of their infantry. Swords and Staves are 1 handed weapons and Storm Bolters are Assault, thus counting as secondary weapons in close combat. That means Strike Squads get 2 attacks, 3 on the charge. Purifiers get 3, 4 when charging, and Paladins get 5 on the charge if they have a Brotherhood Banner as long as they are wielding a Sword or a Stave. Characters like Librarians or Squad Leaders can cut down everyone in base contact with them on their initiative (which will be 10 in the case of the Librarian) with directed attacks, and basically have no fear of suffering damage in return except from other characters.

I'd be very interested in seeing a battle report using Draigowing, Purifier Spam, or even just a static gunline using Strike Squads with Swords and a Stave on the Justicar.

Great report! Thanks for taking the time to post it online. It's nice to see some of the 6th edition 'rulebook' in action.
