Becoming? It's always been that way.
In fact, it may have become less so when they took out the Squats (dwarfs). But now with rumors of the Demiurg in the new Tau codex...

I see what the OP was trying to say that the fluff during his induction was about as far as they could have been at the time down to everything even the fluff was different back then. I remember when the Codex first came out for grey knights i was like WTF is this crap? To most people who get into the game the whole universe seems so pushed toward codexes establishing fluff as opposed to anything else our understanding of the universe is molded around them.
For example the Grey knights in their last codex came off to me as simply more badass than normal space marines with the ability to take guard or other space marines as additional back up to combat the forces of chaos yet not they are their own stand alone codex with this powerful build and much more matured rp as their pieces clearly represent with no lack of detail and cheese. This comparison would have been very similar to the Bretonia Knights of Fantasy last edition when they were more or less unstoppable Calvary fighters with all this hyper-religious badda bing to them.
In essence I hear what you are saying OP, in fluff i agree with the majority though as Fluff > Intentions. That being said i am surprised we don't see more of this sort of fantasy hybriding but am grateful that it doesn't ... i don't want dumber orks i like my crazy creations and killy troops
I don't want Animosity to make a debut here in 40k :(

Becoming? It's been Fantasy in Space since 3rd Edition when they gimped shooting to make the game focus on assaults.

It really went that way when they got rid of grenades and overwatch. Before that it was pretty difficult to get into close combat reliably without a jump pack. Now it's too easy. If this new leaked rule set is legit, it appears that it may be going away from such a melee orientated game.

Pretty sure no one is actually reading the posts considering the regurgitation of same material in lieu of other information brought to support your claim.

IIRC there was a Khornate champion in WHFB that found a chainsword at the north pole, where the warp spills into real space.
They were originally the same universe, in the same way that Red Alert and Tiberium Wars were, until it was retconned.
Always retconning.

It was originally almost exactly fantasy in space. During the 2000-2004ish period you saw a marked move towards independence with things like the Tyranids/Tau/Necrons not really resembling much in fantasy. However with the Necrons retcon you're seeing 40k move closer towards Fantasy again, as what was an inspiration of both Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts with its own unique blend has become almost exactly like Tomb Kings.

As for Necrons that's another thing, they definitely taste like Tomb Kings recycled in space. I was perfectly happy with the Lovecraftian aspect of their prior incarnation.
"Hi, we're implacable metal monsters born from one of the first sentient races of the galaxy. Our gods eat suns for breakfast. Our technology is physically impossible by your standards of reality. We nearly wiped your creators millenia ago. Have a happy mass extinction."
Now I find them much more... relatable. Infinitely less eldritch and menacing. And they smell too much like Tomb Kings.
That's just one opinion though.
Oh, and while I'm at it, why in hell did they feel the need to replace the old Flayed Ones models ? (I'll whack the first that replies "For profit !".) They're so superior to the new ones...
Yeah, I know what you mean. The 'oldcrons' were so much better, with their feel of being an ancient and soulless evil completely beyond Mankind's comprehension, and even beyond the Eldar's.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.
'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.' |
