With the new Grey Knights and Necron codexes, 40k is starting to sound awfully like Warhammer in space...if you agree, what might be your thoughts on the matter, and what else can you predict might change in the future?

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

It started out as Warhammer in space and has never really strayed to far from that idea, just the game mechanics have split off, but the concepts are still there.

Wasn't GW's official stance since 4th Edition that they were making 40k unique from Warhammer? The Grey Knights from Codex: Daemonhunters were like Astartes, but with their new Codex, they seem less like Astartes and more like a Knightly Order or something from Warhammer Fantasy. The Necron Codex is quite obvious in it's similarity to the Tomb Kings, while the 'oldcrons' were if similar to undead, were definitely more evil and different than the Tomb Kings. Correct me if I'm wrong, don't know much about Warhammer Fantasy, and my apologies if I offend anyone.

Becoming? More or less it has been trying to distance itself from just being Warhammer in space. If I remember correctly originally it was the same universe anyway with the WHFB planet within the 40k universe. But it has since been retconned to make them separate.

The new Necron Codex doesn't look it...starting to suspect 'someone' is trying to merge them again. Who knows? Maybe in a few Editions that 'someone' will say Warhammer is Age of Strife Terra or something...

40K has always been a port of WHFB to space. We used to have space dwarves even. Heck, I'm surprised theres no space skaven.

I know that it was supposed to be an extension since RT to 3rd Edition, but since 4th I was under the impression they were trying to avoid that, with the Imperium becoming more monolithic and less feudal, and the introduction of the Tau and the removal of the Squats. The recent Necron Codex and the new Grey Knights Codex (to a lesser degree) has gotten me suspicious about where the fluff is heading.

It isn't. But "Space Egyptians" was the best way to give the Necrons more personality, and the "Knightly Order"-type thing is to make the Grey Knights distinct from the Astartes.

40k started out as Fantasy in space, but a few issues have sent it drifting back to becoming that again. The Daemons codex shouldn't exist in 40k for one thing.

It is sort of confusing trying to separate the two yet having the faction across the two settings. As long as Daemons are around they will never truly be separate from each other.

So it's like the Blood Ravens and the Thousand Sons; GW won't say anything, and just let the fans and players argue and think about it? Kinda sad, and a bit irritating.

What's that? They have Orks in space?
And they have Killa Kans!!??

... The hell prompted you to think that ?
They've been called Grey Knights since their creation. Their fluff just thickened with time, and it always had that knightly feeling to it.
It's not a stretch of the mind to have paragons of sanctity in heavy armour appear like SF knights.
Heck, we already have space Norsemen (Vikings), space Romans, space Teutonic Knights... I'm seeing a pattern.
As for Necrons that's another thing, they definitely taste like Tomb Kings recycled in space. I was perfectly happy with the Lovecraftian aspect of their prior incarnation.
"Hi, we're implacable metal monsters born from one of the first sentient races of the galaxy. Our gods eat suns for breakfast. Our technology is physically impossible by your standards of reality. We nearly wiped your creators millenia ago. Have a happy mass extinction."
Now I find them much more... relatable. Infinitely less eldritch and menacing. And they smell too much like Tomb Kings.
That's just one opinion though.
Oh, and while I'm at it, why in hell did they feel the need to replace the old Flayed Ones models ? (I'll whack the first that replies "For profit !".) They're so superior to the new ones...

I think Warhammer 40k is basically Warhammer Fantasy is space. But, Warhammer Fantasy is really just LotR without the IP.
40k and Fantasy did start out as being much more directly related, and that relation has diminished over time. But, it's still around in plenty of aspects.
