Alot of the hydra & abomb problems could also be solved if people;
a) Would actually take the dirt cheap "here's your unit wide flaming attacks" banner! Running even a small unit of 6-8 heavy cav with this can easily counter 1 of those nasties.
b) Would think outside of "MINRAHZZOR IZ THE WIIIIIIIIIINNNNN!!11!!!1!" Abombs I find tend to cry when they see fire wizards.
c) Would remember they can take a cheap enchanted item that gives them a 1D6'able bound spell fireball.

Now I still agree and consider it bad form to pull out dual hydras/abombs at just 2k/2200 pts outside of tournaments - especially against someone outside your circle of friends who likely has a different idea about what's fun and what isn't. But it's not quite as d-bag'ish as pulling out a 6-diced purple sun on I2 armies turn 1 or 6-dicing the 13th spell in 1500pts games!
Every army has solid and equal access to hydra/abomb counters, but the problem spells just leave a bad taste in your mouth and can outright ruin games.

See and I don't consider bringing 2 hydras at 2 K poor form at all - I didn't think it with my Tomb Kings and I don't think so with my Empire... but that may be becuase I have some very real answers for those models in both armies.

That said just as Experiment said people can bring an answer in every army and should. When I build a list I build it expecting to see an abom or hydra (Especailly since one of the guys who plays a lot is Dark Elves) and if I do I make sure to toss Shem's at it on turn 1.

In the end the difference between an abom and hydra is you still have to advance down the field, you still have to roll hits and wounds and can still die. When you toss out a spell like Purple Suns with 6 dice... it's very likely you will get irrisistable force and miscast and wipe the field. And even if you do get the missfire on the artillery die, what do you care with your I5 warriors of chaos.

I will recommend the above code of conduct to the FLGS owner tho - I actually travelled today 3 horus to go to another open gaming club and I had the most fun playing with my little army men than I've had in a loooong time. Granted it was 40K but even the fantasy guys playing at the next table over were laughing and having a great time!

In my first game I had some Grey Knights and they got SLAUGHTERED by some blood angels and it was glorious!!!!! Even watchign my dudes get put in a furioso blender was just great. So I've got to figure out how to bring that back to my FLGS.
