Feed it 200 Zombies, give up zero victory points, kill the rest of his army.

Those ward saves aren't helping it chew through Zombies any faster.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

Dark Elves can give them fits with three units of harpies.

Deploy one unit of harpies EXACTLY 1" on each side, with the first harpy even with the front edge of the Chosenstar. This prevents the Chosenstar from wheeling at all until the rear of the Chosenstar passes where the front of the Chosenstar started. For 40ish Chosen, that's 4".

Deploy the other unit of harpies with one harpy BARELY in their front arc, 1" away from the front of the Chosenstar, but NOT directly in front of the Chosenstar.

The Chosenstar can't charge the harpies in front; they can't wheel into contact without violating the 1" boundary on the flanking harpies. They can move about 1/4" foreward (either normal move or failed charge) before they hit the 1" boundary on the harpies in front. All they can do is reform in place, or back up. That's it.

Of course, the other units will need dealing with as well, but with over 1800 points (in a 2000 point battle) of your army vs. about 500 points of his, that shouldn't be over hard.

Another comedy tactic is as follows....

Take a Slann with Lore of Shadows.
Take a good number of Skink Priests - ideally you want one to end up with Wind Blast.

Have the Slann cast Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma on the Chosenstar and reduce it's movement by D3 (so, potentially moving it to Move 1!).

Have the lucky Skink with Wind Blast cast Wind Blast on the unit. Move them D3 + 1" backwards.

Let him spend the entire game going backwards more than he is going forwards.

Now only a CSM player.

I'll remember that the next time someone boxes in my hydra.

The problem with the hydra is it's longer than it is wide, makes boxing considerably more effective..

But if you ignore the 1" rule on the charge, it just pivots and goes, right?

You ignore that rule for sure but there is no way you can occupy the same spot as the enemy's base.

You know, you may be on to something here. 2 units of 5 harpies to box either side. Then a larger unit of harpies, deployed with just a single harpy in the way. Yes, you ignore the 1" rule when charging, so those chosen can wheel just a bit. But, harpies being skirmishers will rank up when charged, possibly taking the harpy unit out of the wheeling reach of the Chosen.

You'd have to isolate the star a bit, so that other units couldn't charge the harpies right away. But that should let you box a unit if you can get the right location. Looks like I do need to get some winged monkeys after all.

I have gone up against the Chosen star quite a bit in tournaments (i play demons) although i have seen my friends run them over with Lizardmen in multiple ways even when they have the 3+ ward save.

one way is take a skink hero and put him on a ancient stagadon with 2d6 impact hit weapon from your lizardmen book and couple with that with the other tricksters shard and you will mow through them with on average 6 wounds from impact hits (7 average -1 because of 1 in 6 failing to wound) of those if he took shields he will have a 6+ armor and 3+ ward which he must reroll if he passes + 3 attacks from the skink chief and all the skinks and then the stegadon attacks and if he attacks back he either goes after your 2+ armor save guys on top or the toughness 6 stegadon.

another way is take a slan/bsb with the +1 LD banner from rulebook and give him lore of life, super buff your temple guard up and kick his teeth in because youll be T8 doing 2d6 str 4 hits every magic phase and regaining guys while hes dying and b4 you even get to that point you just dwellers below him b4 he reaches you and then kill the remaining the old fashioned way (by chopping their heads off) XD

Can't have steg spear and other items as it takes up all of the hero's gear pts.
With that said yes lifestars can take on chosenstars but at that point the game gets kinda monotonous.

PS: The banner of leadership dosen't really help much but for the points it's still a steal.

You could go shadow slann, cast the -D3 on Initiative then cast pit on potentially I2 WOC and watch the star disappear real quick. Works on every army that is bunched up.

I've had one successful game where I was able to avoid a chosenstar... and it was mostly due to an impassable terrain feature in the center that I was able to run around.

All other times I've faced them, they've wrecked face...

Can a horde of trolls stand up to a non-flaming chosenstar? The problem is, if they have any sense they'll at least have a character in there with a flaming sword...

Or a handful of Giant Slayers. Or a handful of Skaven Engineers. Or basically any cheap unit you can expend making them waste time NOT recouping their massive point investment.
