Yea not to mention, there is pretty much, a thread on this site, for whatever game system you fancy. And sometimes I come on here and dont want to talk about Orks, or bash Imperials, or pretend I know WTF people are trying to argue in YMDC. Sometimes I just want to come on here, and BS with people Ive seen pretty much daily.

I for one am grateful it is there, as there is no getting around the fact that it keeps a lot of heated topics and posters away from the site... mostly anyways lol.

But yes, I tend to wonder why people who only post in OT bother with Dakka as opposed to a less regulated place...

Dakka is a great site and a great resource for any wargamer. But, over time, it can become a little tiring. The topics of discussion get stale and repetitive (there's a limited number of topics relating to 40k). So, people tend to gravitate more and more to the forums that allow them to stay with the Dakka family, but have new things to talk about.

Exactly there are only so many "space marine vs spartan", "hur hur matt ward dur hur", "[newestcodex] is broken" and the like you can read before you need to escape, but not necessarily back off from Dakka. It's the same thread that rears its ugly brick filled face each and every month. The thread that could just copy and paste the entire discussion from its previous iteration. They don't always happen, but there are times where they seem more prevalent and that's when the other sections are needed to keep it fresh.

The OT saves kittens in this way.

Ironically this is not a wargame thread, so I will move it to the OT Forum.

BOOM!
That is why it seems like everyone posts in the OT. Most crap posted elsewhere ends up really being an OT subject

Bwahahah. This thread started by a poster with 1/5 posts in the OT and no Gallery photos at all. Oh the delicious irony.
Maybe I should wait a month and post the same thread for an even higher degree of hypocrisy.

Well, yes, I pretty much just post on the OT board, but I still read the other forums.

Lurkers pretty much do the same thing, yet I don't see a thread singling them out.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

I would rather they didn't post crap and rudeness.

There is plenty of good stuff on the site, but it gets lost among the bad stuff.

The OT tends to lead to more...opionated discussion, but I'd have to say the Moderation that I have experienced in the OT is more tolerant than elsewheres. Having totally lost my gak and violating rule one with gross abandon and being warned by removing the quick reply being removed for a week UN the OT being laid opposite to the same moderation response by answering in a thread titled "who has the same powers as the Emperor" with "me."
At least the moderators on DD try to moderate. On another board I belong to folks get banned and ip blocked for disagreeing with sponsors sometimes even over legitimate complaints.

I like OT because some of the personalities in there amuse me, some of them educate me, and generally, the level of discourse is surprisingly good for a hobby board.

I don't object to it per se, and I say this as someone with 12k odd posts that are primarily in the OT, so much as remind people that the posts elsewhere are just as bad.

How about analogizing the OT Forum as a public pool that everyone is allowed to use, only the dirty kids use it, frequently defecate in it, and never gets cleaned out unless the motorcycle gang comes on by and decides to use it.

I post in backgrounds occasionally. I just can't really bring myself to care much about the game proper after GW failed to produce a Sisters codex before sixth edition. Still, I do dark heresy and rogue trader roleplays, and am looking forward to trying out black crusade as well sometime.

What are you talking about? there is no 5th edition Sisters of Battle codex done in white dwarf. That would be silly. No, I am not repressing my memory .
