It's really stupid and silly when I see dakka users only posting on the off-topic forum. I thought this was a wargaming board? Not a place to spread useless propaganda (Because thats what most of it is a lot of time). I must admit I do spend my fare share of time in there, but mainly posting on fun topics .

But anyways shouldn't there be a rule where people should post wargaming stuff on a WARGAMING forum??? and not just off topic posts? I'm just curious...

Well maybe they want to talk to other wargamers about non-wargame related topics, much like the pre/post-game chatter at their FLGS. Gamers have a unique perspective with which to frame their views on everything from pop-culture to politics.
Of course, if a certain segment of the boards doesn't interest you then simply don't read it.

Well, dakka has alot of friendly users, and only very few trolls and idiots. Maybe they just want to post in a freindly environment?

still, i think its not very fitting to post in the OT only, but hey, it doesnt really matter much does it? let the ot be the ot, its a fun place, and if someone choses to limit their dakka activity to that forum, its their descision.

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

You don't need to post to contribute. I find that most topics either aren't all that interesting or someones already said what I was going to say better than I would. I also vote alot in the gallery, or at least look when I get a chance.

So you don't need to post on the ontopic sections, and a rule as such would lead to either more spam or less posters who might have something really informative and valueable to the great planet of DakkaDakka in the future.

Tbh I can't think of many in there who haven't mentioned at one point or another they are wargamers anyways, even if they don't seem to be that prolific outslide of OT.

Some folks don't feel the need to rally on about wargamming, and Dakka is one of the wargamming boards that actually allows 'open' discussion of politics and news in a hopefully polite and pleasant manner and enviroment.

Also as a example, Legoburner said in a recent thread, many of the most prolific Gallery users here on Dakka, barely use the forums. Without doubt they are all obviously wargammers or hobbyists of some kind.

So just because some folks post mainly in Off topic, does not equate to them not being a wargammer.

Hell look at my count, over seven thousand of that comes from a art thread in DCM. Posting habits, doesn't really mean a great deal in my mind, as long as folks are polite and friendly I don't see the issue.

I don't think there are really any posters in there that I haven't seen in at least one other section at one point. Except maybe Frazzled, but I think he's just trapped in there for our safety.

But, march on down there and ask for yourself.

Ask yourself a very serious question: would you actually want the people that post prolifically in OT elsewhere on the board?

I'll agree to this. This isnt an insult though to those who frequent the OT boards, it's just that it's like a safety valve of the forum for steam to let loose. A lot of sites have places like this (for example, /b/ in 4chan. Trust me, all the boards can get a lot worse, even /v/, if /b/ was never there to trap all the newbs and super angry people)

Though what does this have to do with wargaming? Wouldnt this be more suited for the....you know

I spend a lot of time on a Doctor Who section... in the current affairs and real-world events section. There's a thread or two about Doctor Who pinned so that the section regulars can chat to each other but that's it.

It's just about talking about other subjects with like-minded people. You don't have to talk about wargaming to want to spend time with wargamers.

I feel like there is a subculture (read: as in portion of a petri dish of infectious disease) of posters who only post in OT. I always assumed they were /b/ expatriates who didn't realize they weren't posting in 4chan anymore.

The King of OT wishes to weigh in. (Am I reaching with that one?)

I was OT only for a while, mainly because I had discussed every aspect of the hobby I could at that point. CSM have been talked to death and there's not much more to say about Anima on these or any boards, really. As far as painting goes, I only have a really crappy camera so that rules any progress updates out. I love Dakka and have many "friends" here, so that's that Having come into a sum of Orcs and Goblins, I now have a reason to post in non-OT sections but we'll see what the future holds.

I don't do this on this forum, but I do only post in the guild wars guru2 OT thread there. Personally I do it because I avoid a lot of the drama from the main forums and on top of that I have been posting with some of those guys for 4+ years.

It may seem like a cesspool, but i've had a lot of interesting and random talk in OT

I believe the cesspool element is incredibly overplayed as well. It's just not that bad if you avoid the political crap. A bit like a work break room, honestly.

I wouldn't worry too much about what other people do for fun. Honestly, you'll never figure it out.

It's less annoying than the posters who only post about how all the games discussed on this site are terrible. Those people are revered for some reason.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I get a bit annoyed by people who consistently refer to the OT as a cesspool. As a frequent OT poster, it makes me wonder if you find me something of a turd.

I like OT because some of the personalities in there amuse me, some of them educate me, and generally, the level of discourse is surprisingly good for a hobby board.

Well, I call it a cesspool at times, and I post there too. If I find you a turd, that doesn't say many nice things about myself.

When I say it, I'm usually speaking more about the content than the people. Usually.

Meh, I have no problem with people that post entirely/mainly in the OT forum.

Dakka is a great site and a great resource for any wargamer. But, over time, it can become a little tiring. The topics of discussion get stale and repetitive (there's a limited number of topics relating to 40k). So, people tend to gravitate more and more to the forums that allow them to stay with the Dakka family, but have new things to talk about.

That would be silly. The OT board is the flavor of dakka, really. Without it, you wouldn't really have the same feel going on. Nothing in the rules says you have to be involved with the hobby, after all.

Yeah, exactly. I may not be as active as I was in the game when I joined the forum, but still participating on here pushes me to paint when I can. If I wasn't a member of dakka, I'd have probably just dropped 40k...
