Cow-rant-monaut lol

Can you expalin the scout rule for fast vehicles? You said that the threat range on turn 1 is massive but I dont understand ow that would work if I wanted to outflank. Its a tactic that I never use because I dont understand it

outflank rule. Unit remains in reserve until it becomes available when it becomes available roll a dice 1-2 the unit turns up anywhere on the left flank 3-4 anywhere down the right flank 5 or 6 you chose =D

Yes, it counts as having moved at least 6" on the table. But can you do the scout move on the first turn? Im still lost on the scout move....

Okay, so deployment options. Valkyries have 4 total:

1) Set up normally.

2) Because they have Scout, they can be held in Reserve and Outflank and whatever unit they are carrying Outflanks with them.

3) Hold in Reserve and Deep Strike.

4) Hold in Reserve and enter play normally.

If you set up normally you get to take advantage of the main purpose of the Scout rule. After both sides have deployed, including Infiltrators, units with Scout can make their free 'Scout Move' before the game starts. Starting with whomever is going first. Also, per the FAQ, you can Turbo Boost on this move. So if you move over 18" you get a 4+ cover save (the Fast Skimmer rules).

So for your First Turn you have the 24" from your Scout move plus your 12" from your normal move. Its more effective if you are going first but isn't a requirement.

As a side note, there is some broken game mechanics with Smoke Launchers on your Scout move. RAW, you can pop Smoke when you move and you can do that on your Scout move. The Smoke Launcher rules are worded so the penalty only happens on that turn (if you pop smoke you can't shoot and you get a cover save on your opponents next shooting phase) so if you do it during your Scout move and have Turn 1, you can move and fire normally and still get a cover save on your opponents first turn. Doesn't apply to Valkyries of course, but its interesting to know for Hellhounds and Blood Angels' Baal Predators.

Scout is what allows you to Outflank with the Valkyries if you don't set up normally. When you come in from reserve you come in on either short edge (Astropath allows you to re-roll the dice to see which edge it is). You can also Turbo Boost onto the board if you so desire (might be necessary, might not).

If you Deep Strike, you count as having moved at Cruising Speed. For Fast vehicles that means you can fire 1 weapon plus all defensive weapons (which means for Valkyries with MRP, all their guns).

I am 2-0-0 so far. 1 win against orks, 1 against IG.
Just wondering, has anyone else tried this list? I'm curious as to how it would work for someone else

What kind of Guard list was it? I'm not surprised about the victory against Orks. Generally speaking, they have very flakey ranged shooting anti-tank and that's what you need against a list like this. But the IG victory is interesting since he can throw a lot of firepower at you (including potentially Hydras, which are designed for anti-skimmer warfare) so unless the list was fairly bad it should have been a close game.

Close games are good. Aside from being more fun they slowly prove an army as more viable. But victories on their own don't prove good lists 100%. They just give good circumstantial evidence.

I only have the resources to play/proxy at lower point values and am currently too busy painting up my Space Wolves for a tournament in 2 weeks. It'd be very interesting to see how the list performs against a mech SM, SW and BA lists (they do play differently) or some GK lists.

The IG game was rather close. I don't remember the entire list but I can definitely say that there were no hydras, which probably saved me.
There was a medusa squadron, 2 leman russ (1 demolisher, one battle tank), a vendetta, and a whole lot of chimeras, and there was a plasma command squad. Thats all I remember from it really it was a close game though, I won because I had a storm trooper squad just close enough to one of the objectives to contest it and keep my opponent from taking it. Otherwise it would have been a draw. He had plant the flag (objective in the center held by HQ) and I had him in killpoints.

Thats a very similar list to what I like to run. Very nicely done one the 2 wins. Keep up the streak and throw up a BR on dakka!

Thanks, I'll try to get a BR of the next game in whenever I get the chance to play one. I unfortunately am still trying to get all of the birds myself and am limited to borrowing them for now (*nudgenudge* if someone has any they're looking to get rid of, that would be great ). I have a friend who plays Raven Guard who wants to get a game in, as well as an eldar and a grey knights player so hopefully I can get some reports up soon.
