Lost in the warp while searching for a new codex

The nid list has clse to 0 ways of dealing with rhinos at range so there is no reason for the tacticals to be out in the open in the first place. The stealers should have to carve up the rhino before they get to the tacticals inside. A Rhino which they will most likely be hitting on 6 (4 at best) and penetrating on 6. Next turn () assuming they unlikely event that the stealers manage to blow up the rhino they will face ~8 bolters, a ml and a flamer.

Next turn genes may wipe them then consolidate and are free to charge again the following turn. It's actually better in this scenario not to have grenades.

If a full squad of genestealers is getting to your lines then you are doing it wrong...

If there's a large enough piece of BLOS terrain, that's a first turn charge from infiltrating stealers. Also, you must like staying in a compressed area in the middle of the board - 15" on either side is the average charge range of Outflanking stealers.

No, the page rolled and I didn't notice.

Why would the Rhinos *not* be popped? The Tyranno should be shooting them and he auto-pens.

Otherwise you're right - some of them will get killed first.

Why are your tacs outside their Rhino/Razorback when there are genestealers lurking is the real question. Why? Why? Why?

Even when assuming the Rhino is out of cover the Tyrannofex has a 1 in 3 chance of popping a rhino so far from certain.

The great thing about outflanking genes is if your opponent compresses their deployment then you can smack them silly with your Yrmgals. Fun times.

Well, we ended up playing a friendly game. I brought MoF Valthex (apoc special character), which allows 1 infantry squad to be equipped with Hellfire rounds (even for storm bolters) so I dropped Pedro, the sterns and assault termies and brought a full squad of standard termies with cyclone launcher and assault cannon. I also followed your advices and brought a stock Librarian and adjusted my Speeders with more flamers.

Unfortunately for me we ended up rolling DOW deployment and objectives. 3 (out of 4) objectives ended up in my deployment zone.

I went 1st and placed Valthex with 2 servitors in reinforced ruin (central position on my side) with nice LOS and 1 razorback close to a bridge to prevent him from infiltrating genes out of sight underneath. He took a risk and infiltrated genes in a ruin opposite mine and the swarmlord with 3 guards at the halfway point on the other side of that bridge.

He stole the initiative!

His Lord popped the razorback. The genestealer squad pushed forward towards Valthex.

To summarize the rest of the game, everything came in on my turn fairly cramped in the center of my edge to stay away from the flanks, the Termies put some pain on the lord right away but failed to finish him off, the 1 squad of genes got nearly wiped. Thankfully he rolled his reserves pretty badly and only 1 squad of genes came in on turn 2.
Somebody was dissing on the HB attack bikes but they actually did decent in going around the genes cover and forcing the broodlords to take wounds, so did the speeders.
The Librarian rocked as he managed to hood both Zoans when they podded and the null zone worked pretty well too.

By the end of round 5 I held 1 objective with a combat squad in last razorback. He held 1 objective with a broodlord with 1 wound left and had a genestealer squad trying to run for the third objective. The only other thing he had left was a Trygon that was too far to do any hurt. I had 2 termies in range to finish off the squad of genes and an intact land speeder to finish off the broodlord, unfortunately he rolled a 2 and the game ended with a draw.

Very fun battle, thank you everyone for the advice.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
To clarify: he had swapped the fex for a Trygon, and my Termies carried hellfire rounds.

No wonder dakka hates Tac squads so much.... they don't know how to use them.

@Tedurur: Dont forget about the gene casualties if the rhino explodes.

Dreds have worked wonders for me vs nids. I put out 6 iron clads with a master of the forge. Twin link heavy flamers on them. Sternguard snap is good too. Combi flamers for when they get close. And don't knock scouts with heavy bolter. Can put out 5 w/ heavy bolter for 85 points. The 2+ wound template eats them.
