I got a box of plague bearers too today...they are a nice kit. I like the one with an elephant nose...homage to John Merrick me thinks. I might at some point get my hands on another Nurgle Lord and do a head swap with a PB.

Hey Peter - I'm headed to Seattle next week with the lady to visit her family, and then I head back the following week. She'll be staying up there for another 2 weeks though, so I'm really hoping to get some serious painting done while I have the house to myself.

I've been testing PB heads on the second Nurgle Lord/Herald, and while they fit nearly perfectly, I'm just not digging it personally. I'm not sure what the rules or options are like for WoC, but if you can take some sort of possessed lord they would work great!

Thanks everyone for the feedback. As I said, I hope to get painting after the vacation. I've got a Daemon Prince conversion in the works, 2 rhinos to get nice and possessed looking, as well as a vindicator who will get the same treatment. From there, I'm waiting for the new codex, and hopefully possessed and spawn will get a boost, but I'll probably make some regardless. It just works for the army theme, and I really just play with good friends for fun these days, so competitive units are really a necessity. Anyway, more to come soon!

I'm back from a great vacation and a brief respite from the Texas summer heat. I've been building lots of daemons with the new kits that were released recently. The plaguebearers are everything I wanted and more. Not only are the models themselves excellent, the bits included work wonders as decorative pieces throughout the rest of my army.

Nurgle Herald(WIP) and Plaguebearers:

I've also made a good bit of progress on my Daemon Prince. Still not sold on the wings, so I've pinned them but not glued them in just yet. I've ordered some Hive Tyrant wings to see if those work better. The gasmask and head turned out as well, if not better than I expected. The weapon arm is still WIP, but he will have a big scythe when I'm done.

And lastly, just a little peek at the rhinos I'm working on. I cut down a fly banner from the Plaguebearer kit for an emblem on the rear rhino door. I'm currently working on decaying the rhino, and hopefuly match it suitably to the FW nurgle vehicle style.

Apologies for the crappy camera phone pics(I'll get proper ones once I actually have some painting to show) and as always, comments and criticism are welcome!

Like 5 seconds after I finished making my second combi-melta I realized I should have take WIP pics for a tutorial.

I had created the first one some time ago, thinking I would still want them for 6th edition. The talk of the meta shifting to plasma was enough to get me to try of plasma squads for my plaguemarines, but after 2 games, I'm just not feeling it. There has been, in each game, an instance where I couldn't get a penetrating roll against the tank staring me dead in the face. A trio of melta shots would have left a smoking crater in both cases. I'm not saying plasma is not effective, but I guess how I use my plaguemarines, I still like the the mid-table close fire approach, so it's melta all the way for me, regardless of what the meta shift is for others.

This being the case it was time to convert the second Plague Champion to a combi-melta toting, ball of disease.

Bell of Lost Souls has posted something similar recently and while those look really good, mine are slightly different, but I think aesthetically a little nicer. Basically, I don't like the melta power core right next to the bolter shell ejection port. I will concede the drum barrel on there's is cool as hell, and if I ever do a loyalist marine army I'll be using those for sure.

So the bits required and the process is fairly simple - you need a Blood Angels Infernus pistol, and a bolter. Cut the melta head behind where you want it attached and shave the excess plastic back so you have a flush tip. Carefully cut away the tip of the bolter and set it aside. If you drill out your barrels with a pin vice(and you should) I do this before cutting up the pieces as it's easier than going back to it later. Next carefully cut the melta power core away from the Inferus pistol. You will want to shave the rivets and any other raised areas on the side of the bolter and glue it in place. Take your melta tip and glue it at the top of the bolter, but being sure to stay level with the top of the gun where it meets the gun sight. The bolter tip should have just enough room to be glued under this.

And that's it! it is honestly a very simple conversion that can be made for much cheaper than combi melta bits sell for online. I recommend getting the pistol from Hoard O Bits, which has them at 2 for $6, plus you get 2 plasma pistols and hand flamers as well. Those hand flamers will certainly come in handy for my Necromunda forces in the future!

And I've also finshed my second Herald of Nurgle who was needing a banner to match the first one, lest he start suffering from pole envy. It was a bit of a pain getting the banner to fit right, but I really think it worked out well! Can't wait to slap some paint on this guy!

I love the mixed FW SM legs and DG bodies. Makes them look bulkier and more brtual as an opponent. Love them!

Nice little tut on the combi melta. I've always thought the infurnus listol lended it self better to a combi weapon, rather than using a full melta gun.

Thanks! I had initially planned to use a head from the Chaos Knights box, but I didn't have any on hand so I went with the standard helmet, which I think looks unique enough with the new horns. The shoulder pad is a FW Death Guard terminator shoulder pad. I had to cut the whole shoulder away and rebuild it with greenstuff to fit the pad on, but I like how it turned out.

P.S. I'm calling dibs on the Dark Vengeance sorcerer for my Inquisitor in the =I=munda gang I'm going to build. In case any of you guys get ideas, I thought of it first! haha The laughably long overdue Pimp My Wizard 40k entry will be part of this retinue. I may have to also pick up an extra for a DG sorcerer. It's definitely the standout model for the Dark Angel starter models, in my opinion.

Thanks, I'm sure it would have been a lot more informative had I had the foresight to take WIP pics. It's fairly simple, so I think the description gets the idea across, but pics always make a tutorial nicer.

Mentioned it above, but it is a FW terminator pad, so it came pre-attacked. I have been attacking my vehicles with the 'ol pin vice though, and I need to make some insta-molds for pustules so I can scatter them about on the vehicles.

Thanks again for the comments, guys!

I finally got my 2 plague marine squads painted. I've ordered another set from FW, as well as some Mk III legs which I will use to make a 3rd squad and alternate special weapon models.

The more I look over the leaked Chaos codex pages, the more I'm leaning towards to idea of a horde style force for my army. I am definitely liking the plaguebearers I've been using as allies, but I may be including a few squads of plague zombies as well. I have two sets of Dark Vengeance chaos models, so I may end up converting the cultists to zombies, as I love the idea of an overwhelming shambling horde of various FNP units. This would probably be backed up by Hellbrutes and terminators, and maybe Obliterators to keep with a foot-slogging force. I will hold out until I have a chance to read through the codex, but that's the direction I'm leaning from my initial impression of the codex.

In the mean time I'm trying to keep up with the painting and get all my assembled units painted before the codex release next weekend. Once I have the codex in hand I can work out how I want to expand with the unassembled stuff I have lying around.

As usual, comments, criticism and general feedback are always welcome!

Hey Cody, those are some good looking CSM, but the pictures are dodgy. What kind of setup are you using? Miniature photography doesn't need to be expensive. You could make perfect pictures with a budget of under 50 bucks.

I just snapped these pictures with my camera phone. I didn't have time to set up a light box and take proper photos, but I plan to do that soon.

It's been a good long while since I've posted an update, but I've made some progressnce then, but just been too lazy to update. I've also taken some better pictures of my previously painted plaguemarine squads which hopefully do them justice more than the blurry phone pics I posted previously.

Plaguemarine squad #1(excuse the (still) missing special weapons):

Plaguemarine Squad #2:

Plaguebearer horde (Still need some static grass on the bases. More of these to come, but so far just the 20 built and painted):

The Chaos Lord is WIP and armed with my take on the Burning Brand and a lightning claw. Really happy with how it has turned out so far.

WIP Plague Champion with combi-plasma w/ plague knife bayonette.

I have a dozen of these Max Mini biohazard backpacks, and am considering retrofitting the previous 2 squads. What do you guys think?

Comments are always welcome and appreciated!
