Producing women with egregiously large breasts.

Edit: turns out its hard to find well sized, non-nude pictures of page 3 girls.

You say it like its a bad thing.

I left out "beer," as I thought that would be agreed to by all parties.

What cars?
Financial services (looks at the wreackage of the British financial industry) I think "used to" would be better here.
Pharmaceuticals? Really? Who?

I had the same reaction looking at that list. I was all 'Germany, Germany, NATO, UK, Germany'.

But the UK is a world leader in finance; right up there with Chicago, New York, and the big locations in Asia.

Then there are those horrible failed social experiments in Scandinavia.

What failed social experiments would these be? You're seriously suggesting quality of life is higher in the USA than in Scandinavia?

And that was exactly the right thing to do, as to do otherwise basically ensures that London's 'lock' on the financial sector immediately picks up its heels and moves to Beijing, Singapore, or the US.

I'm suggesting, or now stating, that several EU countries have superior education systems vis a vis the US, and that socialism panned out well for Scandinavia.

Of course, all countries are different, and what works for one may not work for another.

No they don't. Glaxo alone posts ~45 billion USD revenue, J&J posts ~60 billion USD, and AstraZeneca posts ~30 billion USD.

And if we look at income, Glaxo reported more than Johnson and Johnson after currency conversion.

Planes? Rolls-Royce makes engines for the 787, C-130, A350, A380, Tornado, Typhoon, F-35, A330, and I could go on.
Cars? Aston Martin, McLaren, Land Rover, BWM minis, etc. They made 1,465,000 cars in 2011
Pharmaceuticals? GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, etc

The parent companies are non-British. But, a large portion of the manufacturing happens in the UK. It's just like how Honda and Toyota each makes more passenger cars in the US than Ford does (and each one is not far behind GM).

You're right, the UK automotive industry is pretty small compared to the US. But, the US is pretty small compared to China.

China made 18,264,667 motor vehicles in 2010. In the same year, the US made 7,761,443 motor vehicles.

China makes more than twice as many as we do. (And, they actually beat out the entire EU combined)

Rolls Royce is the second largest aeroplane manufacturer in the world, they make aero engines for British Airways, Quantus, and many others.
Cars: Aston Martin, Bentley, Daimler, Jaguar, Lagonda, Land Rover, Lotus, McLaren, MG, Mini, Morgan and Rolls-Royce, as well asL Ford, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and Vauxhall Motors.
London is still the largest financial centre in the world, dealing with 34% of global currency exchanges. And neither of those will change in the near future.

They only look small because our police all have to be 7ft tall in order to be manly enough to police people without using guns

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_vehicles_in_the_United_Kingdom should probably get you some info on the cars we have. Most of the ones around here are ford focuses from what I vaguely recall.

Aye, depends on Police force, and the area they are used in, its mostly Vectra's around here, but Suffolk is a large rural place, so most Panda cars would Response cars by default. In cities I would expect to see a greater proportion of the smaller cars, alongside vans and other vehicles.

Any car? I think that's a little biased towards Europe, where some of the finest luxury cars on the planet are manufactured.

Both GM (Buick) and Ford (Volvo) make cars in China. I suspect they can make cars to Western standards.
