Veterans are a poor substitute for real-life units like SAS, SEALs, or Force Recon, who operate as an extremely well-trained unit well beyond normal battlefields. At the very least, Scouts should have Veteran stats with the Scout special rule.
What part of
SAS/SEAL training is where you pray to the machine god that your autocannon doesn't jam?
IG troops, above all else, are expendable. Trying to make a unit that is not expendable is outside of the strategy of the Imperial Guard. As such, modern day elite units do not transition well into
IG rules.
When the Imperium needs special forces, they call in the space marines.

that wasnt very nice.......

I never really understood why
And I see storm troopers as a super spec ops unit for
IG, not as a small elite forward obsever unit
Spec Ops can easily double as
FO
all recon units double as FOs. even regular army recon platoons do this, not only the forscom units like
sas, seals, rangers, paratroopers and green berets.
another special unit is a
LRS unit or long range surveillance. airborne and pathfinder squads of 5-8, that are extremely good marksmen, demo experts and FOs. completely self efficient and operate in/behind enemy lines ahead of the main force. i like the idea of the
FO for artillery and barrage weapons lowering the
d6 rolls.
hows this:
WS-3
BS-4
S-3
T-3
W-1
I-4
A-2
LD-7/8
SV-4+
special rules could be all or a combination of - infiltrate, stealth, camo cloaks, move through cover and night vision. all of which recon/special forces units are trained to do well.
i like where this is all going. hopefully something happens!
