Veterans are a poor substitute for real-life units like SAS, SEALs, or Force Recon, who operate as an extremely well-trained unit well beyond normal battlefields. At the very least, Scouts should have Veteran stats with the Scout special rule.

What part of SAS/SEAL training is where you pray to the machine god that your autocannon doesn't jam?
IG troops, above all else, are expendable. Trying to make a unit that is not expendable is outside of the strategy of the Imperial Guard. As such, modern day elite units do not transition well into IG rules.

When the Imperium needs special forces, they call in the space marines.

About the WS4 deal, Krieg troopers all have WS 4

I never really understood why

And I see storm troopers as a super spec ops unit for IG, not as a small elite forward obsever unit

Spec Ops can easily double as FO

all recon units double as FOs. even regular army recon platoons do this, not only the forscom units like sas, seals, rangers, paratroopers and green berets.

another special unit is a LRS unit or long range surveillance. airborne and pathfinder squads of 5-8, that are extremely good marksmen, demo experts and FOs. completely self efficient and operate in/behind enemy lines ahead of the main force. i like the idea of the FO for artillery and barrage weapons lowering the d6 rolls.
hows this:
WS-3
BS-4
S-3
T-3
W-1
I-4
A-2
LD-7/8
SV-4+
special rules could be all or a combination of - infiltrate, stealth, camo cloaks, move through cover and night vision. all of which recon/special forces units are trained to do well.
i like where this is all going. hopefully something happens!

I'd agree with those stats, though I'd personally enjoy a WS4, though alot of people seem to be up in arms over the guard having anything close combat.
Though with these scouts or LRRPs (Long Range Recon and Patrol) they tend to be highly trained and top pick out of other units. LRRP's in Vietnam were so stealthy they could physically grab men out of enem patrols without them noticing. This I believe could show their Initative of 4, WS and BS of 4 would be from experience and training.

very nice reference, i have to agree with you there. i was basing those numbers off of personal experience against regular infantry men. some of the posts are saying that this kind of unit doesnt fit the fluff......im a noob what does that even mean!? also that it doesnt fit the mo of IG....look at marbo, why not? it would be a 5 man squad and you should only be able to take one. im not saying feature an army that is primarily these units. i just started playing and even i know sws are a joke and dont fit that name at all. when i think of this kind of recon/scouts unit i think of the movie soldier, or the unit from i think patriot games(or one of those harrison ford movies) that blows up the drug dealers stuff. also watched terminator salvation last night and am going to be changing my IG paint scheme to replicate that movie cuz them dudes looked sick.
