When Amazon GETS the box from THE GUY! we finally get our games and such, refunded, but not before.
So THEN we get to re purchase the gak we added to said xbox.

Problems like this only arise because of the decentralization of the process and the complications that abound through the service. It will happen on occasion, but I think to say King Cracker is probably one of the few who has had an extreme case of poor luck here.

There's a big Amazon depot just outside Edinburgh. If you pay postage I can go out there and just grab the stuff and send it to you? It'll be cheaper too!

My experience with amazon has been very good (so far). Been using them for 7 years with no major issues. Bought my TV off them.
The problem we get over in the UK is the delivery companies they use for anything too big to go through your letter box. The ones that bugger off and leave a "you weren't in" slip if you don't answer the door in 2 seconds, then drop kick your parcel back in the van.

Well, apparently they pulled head from ass. This morning, the wife checks, and the xbox/kinect is in Flint, which is at worst, 15 minutes away. So Im thinking in a few hours (processing and what not) we should at least be getting that today. Then we are going to demand that when we re-order our games, they give us express/over night shipping for free, with no argument, or the burnings and rapes will commence!
Uhg. What a frggin night. At least I got to play WoW with my Goblin with the wife for a few hours. At least that was enjoyable.

I think part of it depends on the vendor. I have had NO problems with my orders directly from Amazon. When it is from a affiliated seller who has to do the shipping etc, is only when I've encounter issues, such as tracking/shipping info not being update etc.

LOL
____________
I once ordered cuttlebones for my birds from Petco.com. The were on promo, so I intended to stock up. Ordered 10. Description seemed to indicate single cuttlebones. They were less than a dollar, and normally were $1.50, or it was buy one get one free, something like that. I actually got 10 x 10 packs. The SKUs matched the order, so I shrugged and went with it. I now have so much cuttlebone I'm debating grinding some up and adding to the garden...
With Amazon, I, too, order WAY too much stuff from them. I hate going to the store, and I can comparison shop and get it delivered for free 2nd day with Prime. Oh yeah.
I got angered beyond all belief when some innocuous items started getting delivered with "delivery confirmation" via USPS. Unlike UPS, USPS evidently requires a signature for delivery confirmation (my post office does at any rate), instead of just a written documentation of delivery by carrier.
So I would expect my item in 2 days, but I would just get a little orange slip. I would have to log on to USPS.com and manually request redelivery, or go to the post office... defeating the whole point. This was tolerable when USPS.com only required the parcel number and address for redelivery, though I was annoyed that it would then be 4 days instead of 2 before I got my stuff. However, recently they changed it so you have to enter email and phone number to request redelivery on USPS.com. This pushed me over the edge as just way too much drama for some simple item, like a box of granola bars or tuna for the cat. I really do not feel the need to provide phone or email to everyone who asks, and last I checked, this was not a requirement for postal delivery. During this time, a mail carrier yelled at me that I should leave something on file at the post office, authorizing them to leave stuff. Uh huh, yelling at me is really going to solve it... and sorry, no, I'm not going through all the effort to make a special request.
The last item, I refused to do any of it. Called amazon, said the post office is requiring me to pick up or be present for signature, so I will not be able to acquire the item. The item was a $7 household item... if I need to drive all the way to the post office, I'll just stop at the grocery store. The reason I order is for convenience of delivery, if that will not occur, then the item is moot. Amazon said they would refund it. They did, a month and a half later...
Came to realize this was amazon requiring delivery confirmation on "subscribe and save" items. Adding it up, the silly 10% savings was not worth the hassle, so I just manually order and all is fine.
Vendors are very hit-or-miss through amazon. I go through a lot of effort to only order amazon unless there is no choice. One vendor many years ago advertised a limited leather bound edition of a book, by one of most favorite authors. Price was surprisingly good, but much more than the standard hard cover, so it looked plausible. When book arrived, it was just the normal hard cover. I was ANGRY. Mostly because of the disappointment. I dealt directly with the vendor, and got a full refund, and kept the book (though I didn't want it, already had it). That was the worst vendor snafu, though. Others have been the weird pricing, weird shipping costs, weird contact emails, etc, so I just avoid them.

Consumerist is a blog owned by Consumer Reports that is generally full of whiney complainers bitching about Best Buy like they were matched into the store and made to shop there at gunpoint.
However, there is occasionally a legitimate beef with a company, and most of the larger companies view the site for potential public relations fiascoes. For some reason when a legitimate screwup makes it onto the site, inexplicably the customer is called by the company and the problem gets fixed.
For example, GE was screwing me over on a out-of-warranty oven repair, I wrote a letter to consumerist, and BAM, next morning the CEO's secretary calls me up and says I'll have a repair guy there that day for free, sorry about the problem. So it's worth a shot.
Many is the time someone had a problem with, say, Newegg, and by the 7th or so post a Newegg Rep posts asking the consumer to call then. This only works with companies that aren't immune to bad PR (so it won't work at all with AT&T, Comcast, Best Buy) and of course getting any help is dependent upon your story being compelling enough to be posted, and you need to have exhausted the normal support chain.
The other alternative is to sending the same concise and polite email to jeff.bezos@amazon.com, see what happens there. Amazon usually has good CS.
