Not defending what was said at all, but why is Negus getting all or at least most of the flak? It seems to me that it was the women that made the more offensive comments. It was Stynes that said he was going to go looking for his brain, and the other one that called him a dud root.

I don't know the specifics of the victorian cross, but if it's anything like the MOH, we wouldn't dare talk down the recipient, out of respect. Bad move on their part.

Though AFAIK the MoH is awarded for different reasons in some cases...

Guys try stay on topic. Anyway the reason George Negus did get so much flak was because he was a respected and veteran journalist. As to the imporatnce of the VC mentioned before it is very, very rarely handed out, so yeah similar to the Medal of Honor.

I know an ex-SAS serviceman who lost his finger in an engagement in Iraq. They are highly honourable, very loyal and have a lot of mateship. But they do tell things up front. SAS training over here has claimed more lives of the SAS commandos than actual combat.

My opinion is that the Victoria cross winner mentioned just doesn't give a feth. The chat show host (george Negus) actually has been blacklisted by the SAS and Australian Defense force in general for an incident similar to this about 2 years prior.

It's clear the real threat is talk show hosts. We have to bring them down! Don't you see? They get us thinking that they're harmless idiots, and then when we're not looking, they say stupid stuff on television! It's the perfect crime. Talk show hosts plan to destroy us all! It's a conspiracy man! A conspiracy! They're working with the penguins too. Do you know what the penguins could do if they got their hands, er flippers, on some high grade uranium? Nuclear Penguins! And the penguins are in contact with the burrowing owls, who'll dig under our cities and eat our socks! We must stop the Talk show hosts before it's too late!

Alright. On topic, the guy doesn't seem very off put by it, so at least he knew they were joking. Or he knew how to conceal his unending rage for talk show hosts.

Seriously, he's a grown man who's just spent the last couple of months going from media outlet to media outlet, talking about how he's a war hero. He can handle some unfunny jokes.

People rushing in to condemn the hosts of the Circle aren't doing it to defend him, they're doing it to prove their own bona fides about how much they love soldiers.

Chris Ryan in particular is derided by his former regiment, because he accused one of the men on that mission of jepoardising it with his cowardice and refusal to do his duty - something that did not happen, and considering that soldier in question died during it, is in remarkable bad taste.

I find this thread an amusing counterpoint to the "soldiers make racist jokes" thread.

Soldiers mock someone: "OMG! They're the worst people in the world!"

Journalist mocks soldier: "Deal with it, the joke wasn't even that funny."

Feel free to reverse those depending on your political persuasion.

I know the furore around Ryand and McNab's novels and that is not what I'm referring to. For example I've seen reviews of Chris Ryan's tv shows which all but call him a moron and the comments have no relation to the bravo two zero mission or the novels written about it.
